My students are WONDERFUL. They are all recently arrived immigrant students (less than 4 years) who constantly amaze me at how hard they work! We are at a public high school in southern California in a large urban district. They are in my English Language Development (formerly called ESL) class for 2 hours a day. They are enrolled in regular science and history classes. These other teachers always describe my students as the BEST in their classes! They may struggle with the English, but they are always prepared. Recently our Civics teacher who does not dole out compliments easily, said that our ELD students had the best 'election projects' of all her students!! When my students exit out of our ELD program, their English teachers tell me they mostly can't tell who the ELD students were until they look in the computer. These kids have a great sense of humor and community. They help and support each other like family.
