Inclusion Success!
Funded Mar 2, 2010I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. My students are all visually impaired and all are "mainstreamed" into general education classes. Staying organized in five academic classes is a huge challenge for them. Therefore, I devised a color coded system in which each class has a different color. I then put Braille or write the subject name on each folder. The students all have matching notebooks and markers. This way, they can easily tell which materials go to which subject.
The students are doing very well with this new system! In the past, they have to either read Braille or else look very closely at papers to tell what went where. But now, they just go by the colors! It works out very well!
I also thank you for the copier paper. I have to use my copier to enlarge most of the materials; conversely, I have to write everything out using thick black marker. Either way, I use a lot of copy paper. At this time of year, it is often difficult to get supplies. Thus, I really appreciate the paper!
Again, I can't thank you enough for your generosity! Thanks to your help, my students will achieve more success in their inclusion classes!”

Ms. Smith

Funded Oct 5, 2009I cannot thank you enough for buying my class the wonderful CD player and headphones. My students are all visually impaired; some are totally blind and use braille/books on CD while others are losing their vision and are learning Braille. Special education students are now "mainstreamed" into regular education classes all day long and only see me for Braille instruction and technology assistance. Therefore, they have to compete with other students who have perfect vision and can read regular textbooks. Without technology like this, this is nearly impossible.
Our inner city school district is hundred of millions of dollars in debt and obtaining textbooks for students is difficult; obtaining textbooks in Braille is nearly impossible. Therefore, I have to use books on CD. While I can get the books on CD free, I need to buy the CD player to play the CDs on. Thanks to you, my kids can now listen to their textbooks and complete their work in their regular education classes, alongside with their sighted peers. This is inspiring to both my kids and the general education kids and teachers.
The amazing thing about my kids is that they don't realize that our district is so in debt and that supplies are so scarce--they are excited about school and learning. They love coming to school and using the technology. Thanks to you, their school careers will be more fulfilling and productive than we could have imagined.”

Slow Food In The Classroom
Funded Mar 20, 2008Thank you so much! This is going to teach my students so much about food! Last week, as a "teaser" for the unit, I had them taste real maple syrup that I made from a maple tree vs. generic corn syrup that is maple flavored. They all loved the real maple syrup and are really excited about the unit! (Of course, they wanted me to make pancakes to go with the syrup :)).
I wish you could meet my students! They are absolutely amazing. I know that this unit will help them make better choices about food, and therefore ensure a happy and healthy future for them.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart”

Math for Low Vision Students
Funded Jan 24, 2008I truly cannot thank you enough! We just started learning fractions/decimals/percentages and the kids are really doing well!! Since my kiddos are low vision, we need to write every single problem in very large print; therefore, we are running out of paper. Having these dry erase boards and markers is going to ensure that we can keep on learning right up until the end of the school year.
Thank you so very much”
