    Funded Jan 19, 2025

I am truly grateful for your generous contribution to our classroom project on DonorsChoose. Your gift will make a lasting impact on their learning and help foster an environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential.

Your kindness not only provides essential tools for education, but it also shows our students that their dreams and aspirations are supported by people like you. Thank you for believing in the power of education and for helping make this possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hines

  • An Easel for Education

    Funded Apr 9, 2015

This letter is a small token of my appreciation towards your generous donation to my classroom. The easel you helped donate benefits my students every day. Our carpet area now has a stable easel that can display student work and important information. It also helps keep our carpet area organized.

With budget shortfalls currently facing our district, class sizes have increased and resources have been drastically cut. With that, it is often difficult to buy new resources let alone new furniture to enhance the classroom environment. You helped my classroom in a big way!

When the easel arrived, my students were so excited! They couldn't wait to have a turn to write on it! Since then, we have used it to hang anchor charts, student work and our poem of the week. We frequently use it as a tool for interactive writing and shared reading. This easel is used throughout our entire day and really allows us to stay organized.

With your generosity, my students now have one more tool to help them with their learning. Without your donation, this would not have been something I would've been able to provide for them. It is heartwarming to know there are so many people out there who care about student success. You have made a huge impact in our classroom. From the bottom of my heart and my students' hearts, we would like to say, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hines

  • Technology to Achieve!

    Funded Nov 7, 2014

This letter is a small token of my appreciation towards your generous donation to my classroom. The iPad you helped donate benefits my students every day. The iPad has made my technology center a huge hit!

With budget shortfalls currently facing our district, class sizes have increased and resources have been drastically cut. With that, it is often difficult to find and provide students with the interactive and engaging materials that are tailored to their individual needs.

Just like all classes, my class is filled with diverse learners of all levels. I have students who are still learning letter sounds contrasted by students who are reading at a 5th grade level. My goal is for each of my students to feel successful and to love learning. I believe the only way to do this is by providing students with engaging and interactive ways to learn and practice math and reading skills. The Daily 5 model has made this possible in my classroom. Students rotate through differentiated math and literacy centers each day.

Because of your donation, my students are now able to utilize the iPad during their technology time. Students are able to work with applications that provide them with additional interventions or enrichments. My most struggling students are working on letter sounds, number identification and addition strategies. I was able to download applications to help support those needs. My independent learners are able to challenge themselves with fact fluency applications and reading passages downloaded on the iPad. Students look forward to this center each day and remain academically engaged through the entire center. As their teacher, I could not ask for more! The possibilities with the iPad are endless. I can't wait for students to create movies using the iPad to demonstrate their understanding of given topics.

With your generosity, my students now have one more tool to help them with their learning. Without your donation, this would not have been a resource I would have been able to provide for them. There really are not enough words to describe my gratitude towards your donation. It is heartwarming to know there are so many people out there who care about student success. You have made a huge impact in our classroom. From the bottom of my heart and my students' hearts, we would like to say, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hines

  • Interactive Reading for First Graders!

    Funded Dec 15, 2012

This letter is a small token of my appreciation towards your generous donation to my classroom. The Tag Pens and books that you donated benefit each of my students every day. The Tag Pens have not only made the listening center a huge hit in our classroom but I can already see academic results.

First grade is truly a year of growth. It is amazing to watch students learn and grow. First grade is the year that students make that transition from being beginning readers to fluent readers. With budget shortfalls currently facing our district, class sizes have increased and resources have been drastically cut. With that, it is often difficult to find and provide students with the interactive and engaging materials that are tailored to their individual needs.

Just like all classes, my class is filled with diverse learners of all levels. I have students who are still learning letter sounds contrasted by students who are reading at a 3rd grade level. My goal is for each of my students to feel successful at reading and to develop a love for reading. I believe the only way to do this is by providing students with engaging and interactive ways to learn and practice reading. The Daily 5 model has made this possible in my classroom where students rotate through 5 literacy components everyday. However, because of our large class size we have recently added a computer component to make our work groups a little smaller. The students have reacted by naming it the "Daily 6." During the literacy block students are asked to "Read to Self," "Read to a Partner," "Work on Words," "Work on Writing," "Work with the Computer" and "Listen to Reading."

Because of your donation, my students are now able to use the Tag Pens during this time to support their individual reading needs. My most struggling readers are working on strategies like blending sounds to read whole words and "chunking" words to recognize sounds they know. They are also working on recognizing and reading specific word patterns. The Tag Pens help highlight these patterns and support the strategies taught. My expert readers are working on reading with expression, fluency and pacing. The Tag Pens allow them to listen, interpret and imitate the voices on the pens. These Tag Pens support readers of all levels. Students look forward to this center each day and remain academically engaged through the entire center. As their teacher, I could not ask for more!

With your generosity, my students now have one more tool to help them in their reading journey. Without your donation, this would not have been a resource I would have been able to provide to them. There really are not enough words to describe my gratitude towards your donation. It is heartwarming to know there are so many people out there who care about student success. You have made a huge impact in our classroom and from the bottom of my heart and my students' hearts, we would like to say, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hines

This classroom project was brought to life by Arizona Community Foundation and 11 other donors.
My students are an amazing and dynamic group of 27 first and second graders. They attend a Title I school in Arizona. This means that many of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Just like any class, my students have a variety of needs. Within my mainstream classroom there are students with Autism, students with learning disabilities, and students with visual impairments. My students come to school each day so eager to learn and participate!
