My students need sets of fiction and nonfiction books with CDs for their listening center. I currently implement Daily 5 as part of my literacy block. One of the centers is listening to reading. I have a few books on CD and often check out some from the library. However, their are not enough materials for the students to share. Students are excited about the center until they discover the lack of materials. This center has quickly gone from popular to unpopular. Providing a larger collection of books for the listening center will allow my students to become more engaged with texts. It will also allow students to be exposed to text that they are unable to read on their own due to their reading ability and limitations. Students of all levels can benefit from listening to reading.
