Reading My Ears Off!
Funded Dec 6, 2018Technology is used in my classroom to inspire and promote becoming better readers. With technology, students are exposed to a variety of texts that some have never encountered. They are able to read to eBooks and eReads. Having headphones allows students to be able to listen to books. They are able to listen to books that are on a higher reading level than they are able to read independently.
Part of my lessons require students to read passages aloud. With these headsets, students are able to record these passages and listen to them. They are able to hear themselves reading helping them to correct errors in their own reading. My students didn't like listening to themselves at first, but they love it now. The computer lets the student know how fast they are reading. By being able to record the passages, I have seen the fluency rate improve drastically with my students. The program we use also promotes new vocabulary and students have to read and repeat the words at various times throughout the program.
Overall, having these headsets has motivated my students to want to read more. By reading more every day, their reading levels are improving and it shows!! Thank you again for your support.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hyatt
