This past school year was my first year as a teacher in a general education setting. I learned so many new things through making connections and building relationships my students. Very often what I thought was best for them in terms of where and how to sit was not very comfortable for them. My students had a great understanding of their own individual learning styles and where they would learn best around the classroom. A little more than halfway through the year, my students began to self-select their seats during independent work, and I saw a drastic difference in the work they were able to and willing to put in. Unfortunately, I didn't have many options for my students. This year I would like to use the items I have selected to provide my students with different seating options to self-select. The stability balls and cushions, as well as the stools, can be used in place of traditional desk chairs to provide my students with the ability to move slightly and engage their core in order to balance the seat. The yoga mats will provide students with the ability to sit or lay comfortably on the floor as they work. The standing desk is the most exciting item to me, because I had many students last year who worked significantly better when standing. However, they needed a stable work space at a beneficial height. My students will have the option to stand and will be able to adjust the setting to their individual needs.
