I do not take my role as an educator lightly. I do my very best to meet the needs of each of my students, help them develop a love of learning and provide them with a strong social-emotional and academic foundation. Each of these goals can be obtained through meaningful play experiences. Mr. Rogers said that "play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning." This could not be more true. Preschoolers learn best by being active participants in their learning. During center time students freely move to different areas of the classroom to explore, play and build on their prior knowledge. So many skills are built on during meaningful play experiences. For example, during play students are problem solving, cooperating, planning, increasing their usage and understanding of vocabulary words, acting out roles, strengthening large and small muscles and so much more! For this project I am asking for a variety of engaging center materials that will spark their curiosity and sense of wonder. One of the items I am most excited to give my students is the puppet theater. We have a ton of puppets and I think a puppet theater will really increase student engagement. The language component of playing with puppets is very beneficial to all students, but will be especially helpful to my ESL students. I am also looking forward to the various materials that can be used on our new light table. The camping toys and tent will be a hit for our dramatic play center. The scarves will be a great addition to circle time & the music center. From birth to age 5 the brain develops more than at any other time which makes preschool a critical time for brain development. Help me provide the best learning environment I can!
