We would like to take the 2nd grade students to Nebraska City to experience the apple orchard. While they are there, they will explore Arbor Day Farm’s extensive trail system and bridges while learning about Nebraska’s native flora and fauna. They would continue their journey into the Lied Greenhouse where thousands of tree seedlings get their start. The students would also discover the fascinating world of the honeybee by watching them in action in the observation hive. They would see the apple blossoms and the process of pollination. The objective of this trip would be to cover the standard of the life cycle of plants and animals for our science curriculum. This field trip would complement our curriculum because it would teach students about the life cycle of bees and trees and how to be a scientist in an apple orchard by classifying and observing. The students will benefit directly from this field trip because it will cover our science standards of life cycles of plants and animals. They will also benefit from experiencing an urban area outside of Omaha. They will be able to compare the two towns. With this field trip, the students will benefit from a real life experience and be able to write about it during writing time because we talk about how writers get their ideas from their experiences in life. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
