Redesigned School Needs Instruments for Student-Driven Exploration Time
Funded Mar 27, 2018We are a Title I building, and many of our students do not have access to instruments unless we as a school provide them. Therefore, many never have the opportunity to explore instruments outside of those that are a part of the "standard" curriculum. Because of your kindness and generosity, the students here at Santa Fe Trail now have the opportunity to learn guitar!
We were so excited when we received our guitars in May. Word spread quickly throughout the school and by the end of the day it seemed like every student was popping their heads in my classroom to check out the "new, cool guitars!"
Our school is one of the Kansas Redesign Schools. With this, we have received flexibility from the state of Kansas to do what we feel is best for kids. One of the new things with our school redesign is what we call exploration days. On these days, students select their schedule and get to explore their interests through 3 "orbits." I am now able to teach students guitar during these days. The students love having guitar as an option! Last May, I received the guitars in time to have one of our first exploration day guitar orbits. I had kids begging to be in my orbits that day! One girl walked away saying that she was going to ask for a guitar for her birthday because she had so much fun learning the basics in my class.
So in short, thank you. Thank you so much for your generous donation. Thank you so much for investing in our youth. I know that playing the guitar for me was an outlet as a teenager and is still a hobby that I love sharing with others. I hope that this will be the same for many of our students at SFT, and none of it would even be possible without you.”

Funded Apr 10, 2017When I walked through the school doors this past August that I've now walked through for the past 8 years, I was giddy with excitement. Yes, I was excited to start a new school year. Yes, I was excited to meet my new students in my classes. Yes, I was excited for volleyball tryouts. However, I was most excited about two brown boxes that waited for me because I knew they contained our two new volleyball nets!
We've struggled for years with inferior equipment that had served its purpose and desperately needed to be replaced. We've been resourceful, made do, and approached the school days with gratitude over what we had no matter its condition. However, there comes a point where items need replacement, and I'm so thankful that because of your donation we were able to purchase those new volleyball nets.
Already, we conducted our volleyball tryouts with our NEW nets. We practice daily with our NEW nets. We have our first home game this week and our NEW nets will be on display. The players comment daily on how great it is to have NEW nets that look great and function like they should. As a coach, I now no longer have to worry about if our nets are safe to play on. I don't have to get out my duct tape and try to repair the tears on them. Why? Because of generous people like you. Because as educators and coaches when we begin to doubt whether what we do matters, something good like this happens and people show their kindness, their compassion, and want to help others. You have helped. You have helped the students at Santa Fe Trail have an opportunity to learn a sport on equipment that is safe and functional. You've helped the moral of a volleyball team, PE department, and staff. You in short have invested in all of our futures by impacting a program that serves our youth. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for choosing to fund Santa Fe's project as I know you had many options. The world needs a few more people like you in it.”
