Our school is in need of access to student novels. The old novels we have are aging, and we would like to replace them. The 9th and 10th grade English teachers have selected a novel that students will be reading during class. Having the ability to have a student set of books allows the teacher to read the novel with all of the classes. To Kill a Mockingbird and The Outsiders are two timeless classics that our students will enjoy. Our school district does a great job providing textbooks, but we are looking for meaningful supplementary books to expose our students to more literature.
Also, this project allows each student to take the book home and read it over time in the class. Teachers have been rotating books and buying used books at McKay's as found. So, this project allows our teachers to put classic literature in the hands of every student without imposing a financial burden to their own families.
