  • Indoor Recess Can Be Fun!

    Funded Mar 28, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donations! We had the opportunity to use the indoor recess materials numerous times throughout the rest of the year. Our students loved the sand as well as the other activities this project provided to us. Thanks to this project, our indoor recesses continued to be both fun and organized. There is definitely something about the sand that continued to draw the students but we did eventually get some interest in the connecting sticks and games as well.

I think the most satisfying part of this project was simply showing our students that they did not need to use their technology for recess. They enjoyed playing together and you all made that happen. Thank you again and have a wonderful summer!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. North

  • Where is Page Twelve?

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

Thank you so much for allowing us to start the new year with some new reading material. We are just about to start our middle of the year testing and these books will be an encouragement for those who are going to be able to move up in their reading levels. We did a kind of 'unveiling' with these (and a few other) new books so that the students would get excited for their new challenge when they return from their breaks.

I hope you know how much this gift means to our school and to our students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. North

  • Hands-On Math

    Funded Dec 9, 2022

Every kid loves to unpack something new. It could be a new set of fun pencils and they'd love it (most of them). These math materials came in and my students loved taking them out of the box and identifying what (they thought) each one was and how they could be used.

Since then, we have incorporated into them into our daily routine during our small group instruction in between our curriculum work and our time on computer devices. They do enjoy their computers, like all kids these days, but there is a definite light bulb moment when they learn and understand something with their hands on the physical objects!

Thank you so much and these tools will be used for years to come!”

    Mr. North

  • Ever Try to Put a Kid on a Computer?

    Funded Dec 3, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations. We had a little trouble getting the actual IPad...supply issues worldwide, I believe...but it worked out just fine because we actually got two Samsung tablets and some dry erase boards with a place value chart on it instead!

All items were put into immediate use in our room and have already made quite the difference. The tablets are a favorite (particularly of my friends who aren't quite ready to use a full laptop) and the dry erase boards made a big difference in learning to add and subtract up to 1,000. That is pretty much the biggest math skill students must acquire in second grade and these boards helped them organize their drawings for sure!

Thank you again and all the best!”

    Mr. North

  • New Year, New Attitude

    Funded Sep 28, 2021

These arrived just in time. To put it mildly, this has been a challenging school year...and quite frankly just a challenging life year for children. Yes, we are back in person (good!) but the disruptions haven't really stopped what with quarantines, missing normal school activities, etc.

We are using these journals (and the match ups too!) to try and remember that we work hard simply for the sake of working and that the journey counts just as much as the destination. The idea of a growth mindset is especially important when faced with so many challenges - that we strive to get better and that mistakes can and should be made in order to improve.

I'm particularly proud of the atmosphere in the room this year and the journals are a key piece. Thank you for your donations and rest assured the journals are being put to good use.”

  • Diversity in the Classroom

    Funded Sep 8, 2020

Thank you all so much! With everything going on...and it’s a lot going on...I know I’ll need to carve out specific time to speak with my class to set us up for success. Good teaching requires more than just a solid lesson plan - you need kids who want to be there with you mentally and emotionally. These resources will hopefully get us there.”

  • Sphero the Coding Hero

    Funded May 28, 2020

Awesome awesome awesome!!! Next year is going to be, I’m thinking, a very different and very challenging year for teachers and students (and everyone!) These little devices will add some pop to our day no matter how weird our schedule is thanks to the virus. Thanks and have a great summer!”

  • Criss Cross AppleSauce Is Not Always the Way

    Funded Sep 17, 2019

These chairs have been a life saver for our classroom. We unboxed them one at a time and the kids were really excited to try them out (gently) and to see the different colors. Best of all, the chairs are easily put up and down such that even the smallest of my students is able to use them independently.

Each day, the chairs start the day off to the side of the carpet. Then we use them in a variety of ways. Sometimes they are an incentive to come to the carpet quickly and prepared. Other times they are used in a small group that meets on the carpet. Of my nineteen students, there is only that claims the chair is less comfortable than the floor (and I have my doubts on whether he was just putting on a show).

These should last for years! Thank you again.”

    Mr. North

  • Like West of the Park

    Funded Oct 8, 2019

This device has been a huge hit in the classroom! We use it, at a minimum, for four rotations of about 20 minutes each a day and we often use it during aftercare as well. The students most impacted are those that struggle to use the computers because they can't seem to enter their passwords correctly. Now, those students can simple press a few buttons and get right to our programs for reading and math. In some cases this saves five minutes of sign in time. Multiply that by a whole year and the educational impact is enormous.

Thank you so much for this generous gift!”

  • Mrs. North Bought Books in 1992

    Funded Sep 27, 2019

As soon as these books came in I made sure to open the packages one at a time right in front of my students, especially those struggling readers who need these books the most. I labeled them as quickly as I could and made sure they made their way into the right bins.

Today I looked out from my guided reading table and saw my neediest students making their way through books right on their level, entering them in their reading log, and then turning on to the next. Now, of course, the hope is that they move on from these levels soon but in the meantime I can't thank you enough. God bless!”

    Mr. North
