Let's Learn to Play in TK!
Funded Aug 14, 2022My students and I love all the materials we received through your generous funding of this project. They were so excited to unpack the boxes and look at each item inside and put them to use!
Upon receiving the book "A Little Spot of Feelings" and the emotion plushies, I did a quick read through of the story. After reading the story once, we focused on one emotion weekly. I used the plushies to show the face of that emotion so the students could act it out with their faces. We then described what that emotion feels like and if it makes our heart feel good or not. We talked about ways to help ourselves and others if we feel a certain emotion. The book and emotion plushies are a continually used and referred to in the classroom when students are exhibiting certain emotions. Along with having these items in my "Calm Down" area, I also put the various fidget toys that came with this project. The students can choose one out of the bucket to use when they are feeling frustrated and need to calm down.
The dishes and play food were a wonderful addition to our Kitchen Center. I didn't have any materials previously for the students to play with while in the kitchen. The students love going to this center during free play time. It is so fun watching them pretend to cook food and feed me all the time.
These materials will be continued to be of daily use in the classroom with this class and my future classes. Thank you so much for your generous donation. It has truly made a positive impact with my students to learn about feelings and help with cooperative play.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill Gates and 8 other donors. We want to do PE!
Funded Oct 24, 2013Thank you so much for your generous donation to help fund my project to purchase PE equipment for my class and to share with the other kindergarten classrooms. I believe PE is such an important part of a child's education to exert energy and take a break from the rigor of the classroom academics. The children were so excited when the equipment arrived and I don't think that excitement has diminished at all. Every time I say we are going to go outside for PE, the class cheers!
With the equipment purchased, we have had the opportunity to do several activities from our PE program. We have used the hula hoops to practice loco-motor skills with positional words, targets for throwing bean bags, jumping through and steering wheels for a game. We have played several games with the fluff balls such as tag and "Clean Your Room". The bean bags have been used to practice catching and throwing.
We are looking forward to continuing our PE program throughout the rest of the school year. The children and I can't thank you enough for your gracious donation!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chalabian
Math "Their" Way
Funded Dec 17, 2012Words cannot express the gratitude that my class and I have for your generous donation. Your generosity has enabled the purchase of math manipulatives for my kindergarten classroom.
My kindergarten children have become 21st century thinkers by using these manipulatives to learn various math skills all while using a hands-on approach to learning and various strategies. Place value, base ten, real-life story problems and math facts are only some of the skills being taught using these manipulatives. All the children are so engaged when using the manipulatives and have concrete knowledge of the skills being taught.
Without your donation, my classroom would not be able to do the mathematical reasoning we are now doing today. Thank you for helping us become real-life problem solvers and 21st century thinkers.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Chalabian
