My students come from a variety of circumstances. Some come from stable homes where learning is valued, others come from homes where survival is on the forefront and school takes a backseat. A majority of my students have never ventured outside of our city limits. Our school serves students first-fifth grade in a neighborhood setting. Our city does not offer much in terms of culture and academics- the closest public library is miles away. Most students stay within the streets of their neighborhood. For these reasons, It is hugely important that I bring experiences to the classroom. Books are our window to the world. However, my current classroom library has limited resources for my struggling readers- the students who typically come from those homes that undervalue education. It is with these students in mind that I seek these valuable resources.
