Thank you so much for your gifts. We truly appreciate them. My favorite thing that I want to share is that fact that my students ask for the posters when a new strategy or scaffold is learned before I even offer them! The posters and markers have truly made a difference in their academic growth. My students and I are using the new resources for several projects this year. The first project involved students learning strategies to help the scaffold high level, complex texts by using text dependent questions and the RACE strategy. (Restate, Answer, Cite Evidence, Explain) Students not only created their own groups RACE poster, but they also added indicators of what should be done at each point. I placed these on our classroom walls for students to see daily. Students really felt that these posters helped them to retain the strategy and allowed them to use it in Science and Social Studies classes too. When my students first saw the materials, they were so exciting. Most of them asked me, "Where did you get these?" "Is this a poster, this is so cool?" "This is going to be so helpful!" I shared my journey on donorschoose.org with the students. They immediately wanted to say, "Thank You." I have future plans for the next steps in their learning. The first strategy will consist of an editing, floating vocabulary wall, where students may add their own words. These words will help them in their evolution into higher order texts. This will help them write more clearly.”
