  • Document Camera Needed for Kid Related Current Events

    Funded Aug 21, 2015

I want to say, thank you so much for the document camera. I use it everyday in my daily lessons. It's a great tool for checking homework, displaying student work, and for reading comprehension. We are a title 1 school, resources and materials are hard to attain. The document camera is great because now I can just place the book under the camera and the whole class can read along with me. I know this will improve my students level of comprehension.

Not only am I excited about the document camera, but the kids are. Whenever we finish an assignment they are all raising their hands to share their work using the document camera. This tool has truly made a positive impact in my classroom. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Faziola

  • 4th Grade Science Lab!

    Funded Jan 20, 2015

I'm an elementary school teacher, teaching in a Tier I school. Most of the children in this school come from low income families. As a teacher, I want to ensure that each child learns to the best of their potential. When I set up my classroom in the beginning of the year, I knew that my incoming students had very high interests in science. Living in a densely populated urban environment, it is especially important to have opportunities learn about the natural world.

My classroom wasn't equipped with the tools I needed for them to explore the world. I had only one microscope with a missing part! During parent orientation, I asked parents for their help in finding any donors to help get our class ready for their children. That's when they helped sign up an account with Donor's Choose. Thanks to you and your donors we now have a great science lab with 3 fully functioning microscopes that my kids use every week.

My students are avid biologists and are especially interested in the natural world. My classroom wasn't equipped to meet their needs. When I told my students that we would be receiving new microscopes and slides, they were over the moon excited.

Having these microscopes and slides as part of our classroom, gives the students a sense of ownership. They know that parents and donors gave so that they would have the tools to learn about the things around them that interests them. The students are excited about biology and the teacher is excited that they are learning!”

  • 100 New Books!

    Funded Dec 3, 2014

I'm an elementary school teacher, teaching in a Tier I school. Most of the children in this school come from low income families. As a teacher, I want to ensure that each child learns to the best of their potential. When I set up my classroom in the beginning of the year, I knew that my upcoming students had very high reading levels. My library wasn't equipped with the books I needed for them.

During parent orientation, I asked parents for their help in finding any donors to help get our library ready for their children. That's when they helped sign up an account with Donor's Choose. Thanks to you and your donors we now have a great library that my kids use every day.

My students are very avid readers. They love to read. They are reading above fourth grade level. My library wasn't equipped to meet their reading needs. When I told my student that we will be receiving new books in our library, they were over the moon excited. They were telling me which books I should put on my list. It was really nice to see them get excited about reading.

The books have become part of our classroom library. It has its own special location with a sign out sheet. We have it set up like a real library. Students take out books and must return them within two weeks. They have the option to re-sign the book out if they are not finished reading it yet. It also gave us another classroom job, the librarian. Having these books as part of our classroom, gives the students a sense of ownership. They know that parents and donors gave so that they would have books to read that interests them. The students are excited about reading and the teacher is excited that they are reading!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Faziola

We have a culturally diverse group of students this year from all walks of life in this thriving urban Title 1 school. What unites our children is the strong sense of community we all share here at the school and in the surrounding supportive neighborhood.
