Empowering Futures With 7 Habits

Help me give my students a resource to support their transition from middle to high school. The students will greatly benefit from the guidance and skills this book offers as they navigate this important time in their education.

More Manga Please!

Help me give my students an expanded manga collection for more access to these engaging stories! Many reluctant readers are enjoying manga, and by adding more titles, we can encourage even more students to dive into reading.

  • Help My Students Develop 7 AWESOME Habits!

    Funded Nov 23, 2020

On behalf of all of my students, I want to thank you for donating to our project to provide each of my students with their very own copy of Sean Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.

I quickly learned early on in our reading that my students needed a physical copy of the book. I tried my best to help the kids read the book virtually, but nothing is like reading a book in your own hands. My students were beyond thrilled when they learned that they would each be given a copy of the book. Many asked me several times when they needed to return the book. I told them the book is theirs to keep because of the kindness of others.

The gratitude went beyond the students themselves. Some of my students told me their parents were excited to look at the book too! I had a mother and son both tell me they were so happy to have a copy of the book in the house, and they were very grateful to have one be given to them.

The students were able to grasp the concepts and ideas of the 7 Habits easier because they could read the book and refer back to sections. They highlighted sections that connected with their lives or ideas they wanted to recall with ease.

The lessons we learned from reading the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens will hopefully stick with my students for years to come. And, because of the kindness of our donors, they will be able to look over the book again any time they need a little reassurance or refresher.

Thank you again for helping my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fenner

  • Must Have Manga!

    Funded Oct 24, 2018

The students at my school are SO excited about the addition of manga to our school library. I made the announcement of the addition during one of our weekly video announcements. That very day I had students coming in to check out the new manga books! Each student had beaming smiles while looking at the books. Recently, one of our Special Education teachers brought her class in to check out books. The class had a lot of reluctant readers. As I was helping the kids locate books, a student asked me about the new manga collection. A few of his classmates overheard and wanted to see the books too. Suddenly I had students grabbing two or three manga books at a time to check out!!! I have had more students check out multiple manga books than any other genre. Our manga collection may still be in its infancy but the impact it has been tremendous!! I am beyond thrilled to reach readers I was unable to reach before. Thank you SO much for helping me reach these kids!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fenner

My students are awesome, first and foremost. Most of them come from working-class, immigrant families. We have a very large population of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. As the teacher librarian at my own alma mater, I have seen an insatiable desire from hundreds of my students here in terms of adding to our old, somewhat outdated Library collection. My suggestion box at the circulation counter is filled with requests, most notably for more manga. Many of our students either do not have the funds to just go out and buy books, or do not have the time or transportation to get to our local public libraries. Therefore, our school library is an integral resource for our students.
