  • Books for Special Needs Learners

    Funded Oct 5, 2013

This has been the best few months of school ever and it is because of the awesome texts we are using. The book, Tara and Bella, is about the elephant sanctuary that is about an hour from where we live. The vocabulary and you-tube videos that go with the lesson are fantastic. We compared the documentary of the book to the text. The students were so motivated to read. They were asking questions and answering their peers questions like crazy. I almost felt like I had finally created an atmosphere where I facilitated and they were learning on their own. The excitement which the interesting text provided allowed me to backup and support them as they were learning. I believe the resources make all the difference in engagement in the classroom. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I cannot tell you what a difference you have made in my students lives. I love my children and wish I could explain how motivated these books have made my class.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Aymett

  • Students With Special Needs and Literacy

    Funded May 25, 2013

Thank you so much for donating books to our class. My students were so excited. They said, "Wow, how did they know we needed books?" I explained the process and they were so appreciative. One child said, "I am so glad they value my education." It really warms my heart to be able to give them opportunities to read great text. They are so motivated and have a million questions. It makes literature circles and small group instruction extremely more meaningful. We will use these text in small group instruction. We will compare the text, explore vocabulary, plot, and main idea. These students grew tremendously last year and thanks to you I will be able assist them in continuing as lifelong learners.”

    With gratitude,

  • Special Needs Students Need Books

    Funded Jul 7, 2013

My students were thrilled with the new books. They have already read and discussed many of the illustrations and text. I am so excited to begin the big unit. Last year this group of children grew tremendously and I am so honored to help them grow as readers and individuals. They are truly loving learning and I know that they are becoming lifetime learners because of you. The motivation that you have given them through books is amazing. We are very appreciative of your kindness and cannot wait to get started!”

  • Special Needs Students Literacy And Mathematical Needs

    Funded Dec 20, 2012

Thank you so much for your donation to our class. My students were so excited when I told them about the books. So when they arrived we opened the box and they read them right then. I was amazed at how they were engaged and actually reading the text. Then I observed them discussing the books. Having great resources is the key to getting them engaged. They ask me to read them the new books everyday. They are also allowed to read them anytime they finish something early. I cannot tell you how much these books mean to me and my class. Your kindness will never be forgotten.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Aymett

  • First Grade Curriculum for Special Needs and Low Income

    Funded Nov 9, 2012

My students have many challenges facing them and the access to multiple math manipulatives is very exciting and motivating. They are so engaged at their new stations. Having a variety of tools to teach addition and subtraction really makes learning fun and connects the learning to the real world.

In addition, their vocabulary and higher order thinking skills are developing with the word game. They are learning new words and their meaning while having a lot of fun.

Your help will never be forgotten. The impacts that these resources are making on our class are tremendous. Thank your so much for the materials.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Aymett

My class is about 60 percent Hispanic and I have four of nineteen that have severe special needs. They attend an inner city school with a population of 550. Most all students live in low income housing within one to two miles of the school. Many of their parents are incarcerated and they need all the help they can get.
