I teach in a renewal school located in a very poor neighborhood of the Bronx. I am a special education teacher with a bilingual extension teaching a large population of Hispanic students. I teach math to an 8th self contained class where most of my students are emotionally disturbed. I also teach math in an 8th inclusion setting, academic innervation skills to an inclusion 6th grade class, and math skills to a general education 6th grade class for extend day. Due to the big emigrant bilingual population and lack of parent involvement, the school is under performing academically. The only way my students can be reached academically is by using different learning styles. The special education population, I service is largely composed of kinesthetic learners.
