In order to give more one-on-one instructional support for my students, I need a way to be able to move about the classroom quickly and not be tied to my presentation computer. Our district has adopted a digital textbook for Language Arts in middle school, so students are on Chromebooks every day, and teachers lead the curriculum from another computer. An iPad would allow me to control the lesson from anywhere in the room, so I can actually look over students' shoulders while they work and give them assistance as needed. In addition to giving me the flexibility to provide more one-one-one support, I can also use the iPad to have students check out books from my classroom library on their own. I am always trying to encourage my students to read more in class, and I keep a large library of high interest books in my room that students can check out anytime they like. Many of my students don't have books at home or families that visit the local library, so they often rely on the books in my room. Currently, I check them out using an app on my iPhone, but if I had a classroom iPad, students could check them out themselves, leaving me free to help other students. Overall, the iPad would give me more freedom to give my diverse students the individualized attention they need, so they can enjoy each day in my classroom as much as I do!
