I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. Bringing items like this into the classroom takes student learning to a whole new level, engages their interests and brings out children's creative sides. From the bottom of my heart, and the hearts of my students, we thank you for this most amazing gift!”

  • Creating a Safe Classroom

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

In my third-grade classroom, the implementation of the new organizational bags brought a wave of excitement and enthusiasm among the students. I introduced the bags at the beginning of the school year as a way to promote organization and easy access to learning materials.

For a specific classroom project, I decided to turn the organization of the bags into a collaborative effort. Each student was given the task of decorating their own bag with colorful markers, stickers, and personalized labels. This not only made the bags visually appealing but also created a sense of ownership and pride among the students.

During the project, the students were buzzing with creativity, discussing the best ways to organize their supplies within the bags. I took the opportunity to talk about the importance of responsibility and how keeping their materials organized would help them focus on learning.

When the bags were finally completed and hung on the back of each student's chair, the classroom underwent a noticeable transformation. The once chaotic sight of scattered books and supplies was replaced with a neat and organized row of personalized bags.

As the students returned to their seats and saw their finished bags for the first time, their faces lit up with excitement. They eagerly explored the pockets, shared their designs with classmates, and couldn't wait to use the bags to keep their materials within arm's reach.

Over the following weeks, I noticed a positive shift in the classroom dynamic. Students were able to quickly grab the materials they needed, reducing disruptions and maximizing instructional time. The organizational bags not only served a practical purpose but also fostered a sense of community as students worked together to maintain a tidy and efficient learning environment.”

    With gratitude,

  • Creating a Comfortable Classroom

    Funded Jan 6, 2017

Words cannot express my gratitude for your kindness. Because of your donations, I was granted new items for my classroom such as a rug, writing center, bean bag chairs and cushioned pillows. These items have begun the transformation of a cold, concrete classroom into a place where learning is comfortable, welcomed, and fun! The expressions on the students' faces when they entered the room the morning after the new items were set up was priceless. One student mentioned that "our class looks like Disneyland!" The rest of them were in awe, and full of smiles. The large rug allows the entire class to gather for meetings and discussions without having to sit on the tile floor. The writing center offers my students a quiet getaway to help them complete their work, while having all of their necessary tools within an arm's reach. An item such as a bean bag chair, which may seem meaningless to some, has instilled excitement in my students about reading and writing. One should never underestimate the power of your surroundings and the influence it can have over you. My future plans involve removing classroom desks and replacing them with tables to allow for more cooperative learning, as well as adding more private work centers for students who need that personal space. I look forward to these changes. Again, your gratitude did not go unnoticed. You have helped 22 needy children, and an experienced teacher who was looking to find more comfort in her own teaching environment. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gallagher

Learning in today's classroom has greatly changed since the traditional days of sitting at a desk. Throughout the day, students are required to participate in cooperative learning, whether in groups or partners, while constantly moving within their environment. Unfortunately, despite the great changes we have seen in the methods of instruction, the traditional classroom furniture and setup has remained the same. With the changing times, we need the physical classroom to be changing as well, but this expensive endeavor is often overlooked year to year. My current classroom houses 24 students with high needs, ranging from Special Education learners, to English Language Learners to gifted children in need of challenges. With these bodies comes 24 metal desks that are 30+ years old. Due to space constraints, I have had my own desk removed as to make room to build a more comfortable learning environment for the students. I kindly ask for donations for items that will make my classroom a place where cooperative learning can occur more frequently, and more comfortably. The large rug will be enough space to hold my students when they are participating in interactive lessons and partner work. When working throughout the room, thirty soft seat cushions will ensure they are not sitting on the cold, tiled floor. The three bean bag chairs and the writing center will offer my students an inviting place where they can read and write. My eventual goal is to build a classroom that will allow for more cooperative learning, such as partner talk and social interaction, all while saving physical space in the room to build more learning centers in. To me, classroom organization is as vital in learning as are books, pencils and paper- perhaps even more so. Thank you for your consideration.
