New and Exciting!
Funded Aug 15, 2024Thank you so much for donating to our classroom this year. The folders have been such crucial part of our school year. They have enabled us to have organization within our classroom as well as communicate efficiently with families.
The books and blocks have helped set such a calming, welcoming space and a fun start to our days. They kids have really loved being able to build and read with the materials they are interested in them.
Thank you all again for your generosity. My students and I really appreciate it!”

Funded May 10, 2023Our school year has gotten off to a great start! By having the supplies we need to function in a classroom, learning about how to be a student in first grade has been a lot easier for my students.
With the supplies I was able to purchase because of your generous donation, my students are able to organize their materials in a way that allows for more productive learning. They are also able to take home their work in a safe place to show family members what they are learning in school.
In the classroom, I am also able to organize our learning materials in such a way that makes it accessible to my students throughout the day. This has been so helpful and beneficial to all of my kids.
Thank you again for helping our school year get off to a great start. It would not have been possible without your help.”

Funded Aug 9, 2022I have loved watching my students use these materials every morning as they begin their school day. They are so eager to learn how to use new materials, work together to build something great, and to get their school day off on the right foot. They are absolutely loving all of these materials, and I couldn't have done it without your support.
The students were so excited to start using these materials. As I continue to introduce more, their excitement just keeps growing.
I am looking to introduce more of these materials to the kids over the next few weeks. Once I introduce one, they will spend a few weeks really exploring the new materials and all they have to offer.
I cannot express my gratitude enough. My students would not have a great start to their day without your support.”

Funded May 5, 2022Thank you so much for your generosity. My students were so excited to see and use their new materials. They could not wait to get their hands on them. They were able to take home books in their book bags, use the sunglasses for field day, and use the highlighters during reading. Not only does highlighting help them become more fluent readers, they were also able to take highlighters home to continue their reading journey through the summer.
These materials not only helped them get through the end of the year, they also helped them continue learning into the summer to prepare for second grade. They could not have done this without your generosity. Thank you!”

Funded Aug 6, 2021This year is unlike any other. Many of my students have not attended public school in person. Walking in on the first day was hard for most. They could not have parents help walk them to class, making this place seem a bit scarier.
Seeing their own school supplies at their desk, with their names on them, helped ease many fears. A lot of my students were not able to come to school equipped with all the materials they would need. Being able to provide these for my students has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders as well as theirs.
We use pencils, crayons, and colored pencils daily. Whiteboard markers, markers, and erasers are used at least a few times a week. Their favorite things to use are certainly the markers and whiteboard markers.
Thank you again for your generous donation to help make this year a little bit smoother for my students. They are truly succeeding because of your generosity.”

Funded May 6, 2020The STEM activities you helped purchase for my classroom have been used so much this year! Once a week we would have a STEM day where the kids would create different projects with these materials. The amount of creativity, teamwork, and growth my students gained was so fun to watch.
When my students first saw the materials, they were in denial that they were for them to use. They were always so excited to use them and to know they were there for them to create and build with!
I hope to continue to have a STEM day at last once a week next year. I will continue to build my library of activities for them to do with each of the materials. I am excited to see where these materials take my students.
Thank you again for your generous contribution to my classroom.”

Funded Sep 16, 2020This year has been so hard in many ways, from a pandemic, learning online, to racial inequities, and so much more. These books you helped provide for my classroom have helped all of us in so many ways. During our community time in the mornings, I have used these books as a basis for our class topics and discussions. We have had many fantastic, hard, thought provoking, and important conversations. These books have made it so much more relatable and relevant for my students. They are able to open up in ways I have not seen or heard from 6 year olds before. I am constantly in admiration and encouraged by what my students have been sharing and how they are able to take stories read to them and apply them to their lives.
Reading in our classroom is an essential part of our day. We start our mornings with a story and have great discussions around them. Throughout the day, the students have their nose in books either in small reading groups, or as a choice they make. These books have been favored by all and the kids are constantly wanting to reread stories we've discussed. It has been really fun to hear the natural conversations students are having with each other about the books we have read and discussed.
While all of my students are loving these books, I have noticed students of color and students who come from low socioeconomic backgrounds are picking up these books more often. They are relating to characters in these books, seeing other kids who look like them, and can relate to the story structures of many of these books. It has been really fun to watch them fall in love with these books.
Thank you again for helping to create such a loving, supportive, safe classroom for all of my students.”

Funded Oct 6, 2015When the keyboards, books, headphones, and garden tools arrived, my students were beyond excited! I had waited to tell them about it until the packages came. We unwrapped them together and once they saw what was in the package, they erupted in cheer! Many of my students do not have headphones, keyboards, or books at home, making the gifts a huge resource for them at school.
My students use the headphones and keyboards on a daily basis. We have a reading and typing program that is programmed at each student's level that they use the headphones and keyboards for. This helps build their phonics, phonemic awareness, and foundational reading skills as well as their keyboarding skills. The kids also use the headphones during our reading block to listen to story books being read online. With these new headphones, they are also able to record themselves reading a story into the iPad, which is a powerful tool helping them build their reading fluency and accuracy. I have also been able to use these recordings during parent teacher conferences to show a parent how their student is progressing. It has been very eye opening. Once they have recorded a story, they listen to the recording of themselves reading and they write a "glow and grow." This is where they say one thing they were "glowing" at, and one area they can "grow" in. This has helped with fluency, accuracy, and expression in all of my students. They are also very motivated to read into the iPads, therefore practicing their stories a lot more, which is also helping their fluency, accuracy, and expression. The keyboards are playing a big part during our writing block. Once the kids have a finished writing piece, they are able to use a Word type app to type up their stories, thus publishing them. The kids are so motivated by this! Not only does this help with their writing structure, but it is also exposing them to the typing skills needed in a technology centered world.
This project has boosted my teaching and my students' learning in so many ways! I feel like my students have become more fluent, accurate readers and typers. The headphones and keyboards have helped drive their motivation to do well, now that they are able to record and hear themselves read as well as type up their writing. The books have led to many great conversations about being a good person, inside and out. We have shared many stories and learned many lessons with these books. It has been wonderful watching my students grow academically as well as personally. All of these resources have been a huge boost in my students' learning as well as my teaching!
Thank you so much for providing these resources for my students who may not have this type of resource anywhere else. I can't thank you enough!”

iPads To The Rescue!
Funded Oct 7, 2014When the iPad Mini's arrived, my students were beyond excited! I had waited to tell them about it until the packages came. We unwrapped them together and once they saw what was in the package, they erupted in cheer! Many of my students do not have access to an iPad or other tablet at home, making the iPad Mini's a huge resource for them at school.
My students use the iPad Mini's on a daily basis. We have a reading program that is at each student's level that they use the iPads for in the mornings. This helps build their phonics, phonemic awareness, and foundational reading skills. The program is so much more convenient to use on the iPads than it is to do on the computers. The kids are able to log on faster, thus getting more time to work on their skills. The kids also use them during our reading block to listen to story books being read online. This helps build their reading skills by hearing fluent readers read. To build their fluency, accuracy, and expression, the kids are also able to record their own reading on the iPad and save it under their album. This is a huge resource when it comes to seeing how far a student has come over the course of the school year. I have also been able to use these recordings during parent teacher conferences to show a parent how their student is doing. In math, we have used the iPads as a station or to practice addition and subtraction fact fluency. Depending on what unit we are studying we will use different apps to showcase our learning.
This project as boosted my teaching and my students' learning in so many ways! I feel like my students have become more fluent, accurate readers. The iPads have helped drive their motivation to do well also, now that they are able to hear themselves read. In math, I believe my students have received extra practice with essential skills, helping them transfer skills from one concept to another. My students are also being stretched to do more than they have before, using specific apps on the iPads in many subject areas. The students need to be able to draw, write, and verbally explain their thinking on the iPad. This holds the students accountable for their work, even when I cannot hear each student all the time. I can check on the website to see what the students have worked on because of the iPads. With the change in Common Core, the students are being asked to verbalize and explain their thinking. The iPads have encouraged students to stretch themselves beyond what they think they can do. It has been fun to watch! They have been a huge boost in my students' learning as well as my teaching!
Thank you guys so much for providing a resource for my students who may not have this type of resource anywhere else. I can't thank you enough!”

Books on CD for Little Listeners
Funded Oct 29, 2012I cannot express to you how much your generous donations have positively impacted my classroom. The books on CD you have donated have helped my students every single day. We have used them to listen to new stories every week. I now have enough books on CD that the kids are not listening to the same stories over and over again. I can have more kids listening to different stories and looking at their own books rather than sharing a book, which helps build reading fluency. The kids are also becoming more independent and learning how to choose their own books without any adult help.
Our school and my students do not have a lot of luxury resources, so without your help, my students would never have had these vital resources. For beginning readers, listening to others read a story is one of the best ways for them to acquire fundamental tools to help them as they learn to read and learn to read fluently. It is also a great way to learn to read with expression.
Without donors like you, my kids would not have access to such a vital piece of equipment while learning to read.”

Mrs. Rose
