  • Books for ALL!!

    Funded Mar 21, 2021

Thank you all so much for your donations. With your donations we were able to send books home for each student to read while we were not in the school building. These text game students something that they were able to read independently and not on a computer. Students were able to increase their independent reading stamina and highly enjoyed the books they received.

While we did not use these books in the physical classroom, we did have a time where each student would get their books and read. For most of the time that meant they were on the computer reading a book on there. These books provided students with the opportunity to relax and just read. During reading time I could see students getting comfortable all over their houses and enjoying their new books.

While all of the students were excited about their new books, there were several who were extremely excited. There were a few students who finished the 3 books that we gave them within the first week of having them. With your donation of the books we were even able to give those students a few extra books to read.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

  • Reading in the Digital Age!

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

Thank you so much for your donations for our Story Works magazines. While we are currently still all virtually learning, this has been a great way to share stores that interest my students.

We have used the magazines to work on identifying nonfiction text features, making inferences about text, and identifying the main idea. However, my students favorite part of the magazines is the debate section. They love to argue! They have really been building on not only their reading skills but verbal and written skills as well. They will spend some of their free time looking up reasons why kids should get an allowance and come back and try to convince other students along with their parents why they should get one.

These magazines have really helped increase class participation with their interesting topics. I can not wait until we get to go back in the building and students get a change to use the paper copies.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

  • Stories That Work

    Funded Nov 26, 2019

Thank you so much for your Story Works donation! These magazines and stories are a big hit in the classroom! They have also been very helpful in our distance learning. Students are able to access all of the materials on the computers at home.

These stories are all different genres and allows students to be exposed to each different one multiple times.

It also gives them a chance to participate in debates about different topics and allows them to grow their own opinions and ideas.

We have loved reading all of the stories and being able to access all of the materials online!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

  • Comfy Cozy Reading Spots.

    Funded Aug 5, 2019

These reading spots have been perfect for my classroom. The students love having a variety of places to sit and relax and read without being at their desks. You can find my students spread all out around the classroom with these seats.

Having the ability for the students to move around and get comfortable had really allowed some of them to enjoy reading more. They have the ability to just relax with their books and not worry about the other students around them.

We all really appreciate your donations to make this project possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

  • Can You Hear Me?

    Funded Jun 10, 2019

Thank you so much for your donations for the ear buds! They have been the perfect addition to our Chromebooks. Station time is much easier when students can only hear their work and do not have to block out the rest of the class.

It has also helped some of the students become more confident in their work as they know other students can not hear what they are working on.

It is especially helpful for those students who need a little extra help with reading and can now hear the books being read to them without other students hearing.

Again, thank you so much for your donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

  • The Sound of Silence

    Funded Jul 27, 2019

Thank you so much for the donation of the tennis balls! As we just moved into a new school building, they have saved the floors from all of the scratches and scrapes of the chairs. It has also been a big help for the classes underneath of us. They do not hear the sounds of the chairs on the floors all day!

My students were so excited to have the tennis balls on the chairs, it actually made it easier for them to move the chairs on the floor.

We all really appreciate your donations and will be using the tennis balls for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

I teach 4th grade to 18 wonderful students each day. I teach in an inclusion classroom which means I have both regular education students and students who have special needs. The school that I teach in is made up of mainly students who have parents who are in the Navy or other branch of the military. We are also in a high poverty area.
