Book Corner Refresh
Funded Feb 12, 2024Thank you so much for your generosity in filling our classroom with new books and a few new writing supplies. One book in particular - Planet Work - came just before the Solar Eclipse and the timing couldn't have been more perfect. As a teacher, there is nothing better than real-life experiences which inspire students and open up a whole new path of exploration. The eclipse seemed to do that in my kindergarten group, and I was fielding questions about planets and orbits and moons for weeks!
With outer space being such a hot topic this spring, I was so excited to share the new Planet Work book with my students. For my age group, it was the perfect degree of simplicity and clarity for introducing the planets in our solar system. You can see in the pictures I shared how one of the children was inspired to make a list of related words with the movable alphabet, and he was thrilled to later match his list to the planets in the book.
This is just one example of how fresh books can help amplify the excitement for learning in the classroom, so thank you again for your support!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Amy
Student Storage System for Montessori Classroom
Funded Aug 2, 2023Now that we have had our student "mailboxes" for a few months, they are an integral part of the classroom. They have helped create a system so students know exactly where to put their work without asking an adult, and the children support each other by helping find one another's labeled name on their mailbox.
The mailboxes have even facilitated thoughtful reading conversations. Just the other day a child wanted to find another students' mailbox, and she said "I know it starts with an M and the ending sound is an /ee/" and using those clues she attempted to "read" through the different names to find it.
Most of all, it has been an opportunity for each child to feel pride and ownership in their work as they proudly and independently create artifacts of their learning to put in a special spot to later bring home.
Thank you again for your support in this project!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Amy
