We Can Hear You Now!
Funded Jan 15, 2025What a difference this A/V equipment has made for our students already! We just finished our 4th grade play and we were able to hook up microphones in more locations to add some great parts to the play! We were also able to connect multiple sources for input with the mixer.
I am hosting a basketball clinic for over 100 kids and it makes things so much easier to instruct when they can hear me over the bouncing!
We are excited for all of the new possibilities as our year progresses and large group activities in the auditorium as well.
Thank you so very much for your support! We couldn't do these things without you!”

Tiny Hands Need Tiny Things!
Funded Nov 27, 2024We have been having a ball (literally!) with these new balls! They are perfect sized and have been used in many different activities already! Students are working on throwing and catching so we leveled up by working on throwing and catching through a hula hoop for an extra challenge and accuracy check. We also used them with scoops in a cooperative game where groups had to work together to throw/catch the ball in a bucket held by 2 other students. Right now we are using them for our tennis lessons as they have the perfect bounce and our old ones were falling apart.
Thank you so much for helping us get this new equipment! I know we will find many more uses for them throughout our year!”

Pickle For Life!!
Funded Dec 25, 2023My students were so surprised and excited when I told them we had something brand new to try! I didn't tell them what it was until we began our unit and they were even more excited! We are starting with some basics as many of them have never played anything with a paddle/racket, so the new skills began immediately for my students preK through 5th grade!
We have been starting with basics of hitting the ball and will hopefully work up to playing with more rules and the nets. It's really fun to watch them as they connect with the ball and improve their hand-eye coordination. I am also able to add in some competitive cooperative activities as we do activities like Partner Rally Tally where partners see how many clean hits they can make back and forth in a row, then we see who in the class gets the most. Again, their excitement when they beat their previous score is so fun to see!
Our youngest pickleballers are starting out with beanbags to help their control and hand-eye coordination. I can't wait to see how they do when we introduce the balls and begin hitting off the wall.
I can't begin to thank you enough for your help funding this project as it is reaching so many of our kids and getting them excited for this new sport. Another great thing this provides is an opportunity for me to point them to our parks to play with their friends and family. Pickleball is a lifetime sport that is really catching on for all ages and a great opportunity for families to get out and play something together!”

Kick Toe, Kick Laces, & Dribble The Spaces!
Funded Nov 29, 2022Again we cannot thank you enough for helping us get new equipment for our classes! The new soccer balls, pinnys, and cones have already been put to good use in multiple ways! We like to learn base skills, then add on and combine to create games and movement activities that we can use now and throughout our lives to stay active.
In the pictures you will see a few things that we have already been working on with the new soccer balls including rolling, kicking a moving object, and fielding with the younger students. In the older classes we are making combination games where students have to be following multiple directions with different skill sets and combinations of skills. Sometimes it's a little challenging at first, but in the end they really love the games and activities!
Supporting projects like this allows us to be creative and come up with new and exciting activities to keep our students engaged. Having enough equipment to keep all students engaged during our class time is HUGE in developing movement skills that will last a lifetime. Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for your help!!”

Funded Feb 17, 2022I can't even begin to tell you what amazing timing this project had! We were able to get the basketballs in for our clinic which included 190+ of our kindergarten through 5th grade students! Students were invited to come for an hour on four Thursdays and try 10 different basketball activities. Thanks to this project we had enough basketballs to do each activity without students sitting around waiting! What a win!
I knew our students who are always into sports would enjoy themselves, but I was blown away at the reactions of our students who typically talk about video games! I had quite a few of them tell me how much fun they were having and now that it's over they are expressing sadness there. I am so thankful we could give them this experience!
This project involved so many different groups of people--it was so great to see everyone come together for the kids. It went so well we can't see how we cannot do it again!”

Funded Jan 7, 2022I apologize for the wrong posting a few days ago! I had to wait for DC to reset the project.
This project has been an incredible help to getting our elementary basketball program up and running! Having enough basketballs for each player is vital when we have limited practice time. We were quite fortunate that they arrived quickly and we were able to use them during our season! It was awesome to see the skill progression of our players as they worked on each skill!
The first night we pulled out the basketballs our guys went crazy! They were so excited to have their own basketball and ones that bounced nicely!
I can't wait to see how the program advances as we are able to work with the kids and help them progress their skills! We cannot thank you enough for your help with this endeavor! We appreciate you!!”

Funded Nov 30, 2021How exciting we received our new equipment and put it to use right away! The kids were so excited to be able to try some different moves in the gym with the new mats!
The activities that seemed to be their favorites were the box jumps and safety rolls (check out the pictures). I am thankful to be able to instruct them on safety and proper form for these activities so that they can apply these concepts when they do these things "in real life".
It is my hope to keep building and offering more components to our parkour lessons so that they will attempt new movements and as they attempt more and bigger movements they do so safely! We are able to do these things because of donors like you, so I cannot say thank you enough!!”

Funded May 6, 2020Thank you so much for your support of our PE classes at SSMSES! With your donation we were able to purchase plastic drum sticks and poly spots which are being used for cardio drumming activities. Who knew when we started this project how great of an activity it would be especially during these times when we need to distance and sanitize everything often! These materials have proven to be perfect for both of these criteria!
When my students walked in the first day and saw drum sticks their excitement was not contained--the clicking began immediately!! The first song that we drummed to is "I'm in a Hurry" by Florida Georgia Line. It is very fast paced, so by the end my students had their heart rates and breathing up with giant smiles on their faces--exactly the point!!
Again, I am so thankful for your support of this and other projects as I try to give my students many opportunities and ideas of how to stay active for a lifetime. The first wealth is health! Your generosity will impact these and other students for many years to come--a gift that keeps on giving!”

Funded Dec 4, 2019We are so excited to have received our new plyo jump boxes! Our students have been busy experimenting with them during some classes and are looking forward to using them for more activities that will challenge them! I love watching them come up with new and interesting ways to use them even with our normal activities.
So far, Kindergarten and first grades used the boxes working on climbing and landing from a vertical jump. Second and third grades made attempt to jump on and over the boxes using various styles of jumps. Along with jumping on and over, fourth and fifth grades will also be attempting activities like catching a ball after jumping in to the air!! They are really loving that extra challenge as a thrower and catcher!
It is great to be able to offer my students new twists on old activities and I love to see their creative sides! We can't thank you enough for supporting us and making these projects happen. Be on the lookout for our next "new" thing!
Never stop playing!!”

Funded Oct 9, 2016Hello Donors!
I am so excited to inform you that we have received our new speaker and microphones! Our students danced the Monster Mash last week and could actually hear the music! Also, as promised, I have been adding in more music during various times during our lessons to give the kids a little motivation to move more and faster! Have you ever added music to a workout--it's amazing how much better it is!
It is my goal to add more music as I get used to having this technology and it will be great when we have assemblies so that our students can better hear and understand what is going on. Our principal has tested it out when addressing a group and is excited to have this technology for future group activities as well!
We cannot thank you enough for your generosity. We will be using this equipment to help our students as much as possible in the future and I could not have done it without you!”

Mrs. Assalone
