At the beginning of each year, I meet a new group of children with inquisitive minds, that are ready to be filled with all sorts of new and exciting things. This year is no different, however with the political movement in our state, funding has been drastically cut. As a result of these budget cuts, materials that my children have in the past loved and learned so much from are not available. Most of my students are from low income, poverty stricken families. They very rarely leave the projects or the community that they live in. They do not have a lot of the experiences that their grade level peers from other communities have because of lack of financial means. This is a disadvantage for them in school.
