Creating Active and Engaged Learners
Funded Nov 10, 2015My students and I are so grateful for the assistance you gave us by purchasing these tablets. As adults we use technology everyday. We use technology to talk to people, make purchases, and many other things. Technology for my students is a little different though.
In my classroom we use technology in a multitude of ways. Every morning my students use a program called Xtra math that allows them to compete with a teacher to master their math facts. This program is downloadable on the tablets and I allow my students to use them for this reason. Their are also amazing apps on the device that allow my students to keep practicing certain skills and concepts. These apps will also allow me to track student progress so that I know which students are struggling and on what concepts they are struggling with.
If I had to choose one thing that I love most about the devices, it would be the cameras. I have purchased games from a website called Teachers Pay Teachers, and the games require QR readers to play them. My students love these games. They no longer have to just sit down during group time. I post the codes around the room and the students use the devices to scan the codes and answer the questions. It not only helps them learn, but it is also keeping them active. They don't get as restless as they have in the past.
One of my students is an ESOL student who only speaks Spanish. When we first got the devices he was a little hesitant, because he has not had a lot of access to technology. He barely knows how to turn the computer on, but he loves these tablets. I is easier for him to operate, and even though he doesn't understand a lot of English he still manages to play the games and make great progress.
No amount of thank yous could express how much we appreciate you at AT&T. I am sorry that this letter did not come sooner, but we have really been stressed with testing approaching. Your kindness to us has not and will not go unnoticed. We love you and thank you so much.”
With gratitude,
