My students attend school in a densely populated area of Concord. Approximately 85% of the student population receive free/reduced lunch and about 75% of students are English Language Learners. My 1st grade students are currently in a Primary Language Literacy program in which they learn to read in Spanish and study all other subjects in English. As English is not their primary nor dominant language, it is crucial for our activities to be comprehensive and engaging. Transitioning into a longer day, my students need multi-sensory activities that will encourage their curiosity and willingness to learn, despite whatever hardships they may face outside of school.
