My Kindergarten students, like most five-year-olds, are passionate about learning and deeply excited by the world around them. They are fascinated by plants and animals, by the daily weather and temperature, by planes flying overhead and by roly poly bugs found in our garden. A Spanish Immersion class in a diverse, urban public school in California; they come from a range of socio-economic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. About half are native Spanish speakers; the other half are developing their Spanish abilities. More than half qualify for free and reduced price lunch. However, all of them are eager to learn, and all of them deserve a classroom environment rich with the books, materials, and technology that will best facilitate their learning.
