I cannot begin to tell you how much my students and I enjoy the books you sent. When the boxes arrived, you would have thought it was Christmas. The smiles on the kids' faces were priceless!
Before your books arrived, the "library" in my new classroom was not a place where my kids wanted to spend time. Since your gifts arrived, we have added rugs, posters, and new book bin labels and the library has become the focal point of our classroom. Some of our favorite times are when we gather together in the library for a read-aloud.

Our school's population is almost 100% African American and about 75% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. I truly believe that my students love coming to school each day, but it can be frustrating for them because so many of them struggle with reading. As an avid reader, I want to provide them with the skills and resources that will help them to become more engaged with literature of all types, which will drive their desire to succeed. They love to perform and create as a way of expressing themselves. I hope to help them unlock the doors to reading that will allow them to express themselves in other ways.
