Kindergarten Couch Club

Help me give my students a collaboration area that promotes discussion and exploration in an intimate way. Couches provide a sense of flexibility, and creativity in ways that hard furniture does not.

  • Comfy Couch for Cool Kids

    Funded Oct 31, 2024

On behalf of my students and myself, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of an awesome cool couch for our classroom. Your kindness and support have truly made a difference in our learning environment.

Since receiving our cool couch, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact it has had on my students. It has improved our reading time by providing such a cozy atmosphere. It has also enhanced engagement with books by making the classroom a more friendly and inviting environment. Seeing the excitement and enthusiasm on my students' faces has been truly rewarding, and it wouldn't have been possible without your generosity.

Your support reminds me of the incredible community we have, and my class and I are so grateful for people like you who believe in the power of education. Thank you once again for your thoughtfulness and generosity. We appreciate you and the difference you are making in our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

  • A Cool Computer for a Creative Teacher

    Funded May 27, 2020

Thank you so much for helping me get a MacBook Air computer! This has made a WORLD of difference with all the requirements of distance learning. The computer is fast, efficient, works great with my document camera, and is able to keep up with the demands of remote teaching and distance learning.

My students are happy that my computer works fast as I need to toggle from screen to screen and switch from document camera to web sites and back to our zoom session. The new computer has also helped me produce fun videos to further my students engagement in this format of teaching.

All of my students are truly trying their best to engage during our live teaching time and I am finding that they able to do a lot of technology components independently. I am grateful that I am able to use such a cutting edge tool in order to teach my kindergarten class. Thank you for making this all possible!”

  • A Sound System for our Super Students

    Funded Oct 16, 2019

I am writing to express my immense gratitude and thanks for such a generous and much needed gift. The sound system and microphone are such powerful tools for my class to express their thoughts, talents, and ideas through letting their little voice be heard. When my students saw the sound system they were overjoyed and they love using the microphone.

They have been able to celebrate different traditions and holidays by using the sound system for our Holiday Sing-A-Long and tradition sharing event. The students have really enjoyed hearing their voice projected and the excitement the big sound system creates to their presentations.

Our next steps will be preparing for their public speeches about their future interests and careers for our upcoming "Career Day." The sound system and microphone will be used by every student in our kindergarten classes-- a total of 100 students!”

  • Furniture in Motion!

    Funded Oct 9, 2017

Thank you so very much for donating to our classroom needs. We are super excited about our new furniture! We are able to continue to keep moving as our little developing bodies need movement in order to focus. When we first saw the materials there were squeals of delight as my students were overjoyed when they saw the cool Hokki Stools. We use our stools everyday during table time as we concentrate on small group activities and the stools are an amazing resource to help us stay on task. We can't thank you enough for making our class a safe and fun place to learn and grow.”

  • "Be Aware of Wonder..."

    Funded Oct 14, 2014

It is a great honor to write how grateful and thankful my class and I are for your generous donations to making our classroom more enriching. We have used our dollhouse, community toys, science kits, and magna tiles daily. My students love learning and the materials you provided have made our learning hands-on and exciting!

We have been inspired by our diverse science centers and community resources to celebrate career and community month as a grade level. My students will be studying diverse careers and many of them are interested in science careers --thanks to your science centers! My students have been developing their observation, writing, and community skills as they have learned at a young age how to take turns, and record what they are learning.

The Magna Tiles have also boosted our study of plane, and 3D shapes and the tiles have made it so much fun to build and design creative structures out of the shapes they are learning. My students are engaged and want to take their learning to the next level by creating things independently that go with what we are learning. One student observed the American Flag on our community resources and drew his own!

The audio books have also streamlined many of my kindergarten student's ability to record a beginning, middle, and end to a story. I have been completely blessed as a teacher to see their joy, inspiration, and wonder for learning. Thank you for caring so much and making these wonderful moments in learning possible.”

  • Listening and Learning!

    Funded Sep 23, 2014

Thank you so much for providing my students with a rich literature foundation. With our new headphones students can enjoy books as they are read to and enriched with music. My students were overjoyed with the easy access to our listening station and the ability to enjoy literature independently.

The resources are used during centers, morning activities, and even for "Fun Friday!" Often I hear the students say how much they enjoy the listening station.

It has made our literacy centers come alive as students can hear the character's voices, easily describe settings, and have developed in identifying beginning, middle, and end in sequence.

Your support has greatly increased my student's reading development and comprehension. Their exposure to texts has doubled and I am so very thankful for your support.”

  • Inspiring A Love of Learning

    Funded Oct 8, 2013

I can't thank you enough for enriching our classroom with inspiring resources! When we received our balance bikes our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes were beyond excited! Thanks to the awesome balance bikes our class put on their own "TK Olympics!" The balance bikes and helmets have been used daily, and are often an item used for our perceptual motor center.

Your generous donation also supplied our class with a reading center. My students love to sit on the couches and read together. Our class has developed in reading skills as we now have a functional space and a plethora of books that my students love to read. The water/sand tables have also provided a new sensory development table and space in the classroom for daily science.

My students have grown in their vocabulary, balance development, language arts skills, and more! The books, bikes, helmets, sand/water tables are resources that have allowed my students to incorporate learning through diverse experiences. I am so very grateful for your kindness, support, and care for our students. We are so thankful for your willingness to make a classroom a very fun place to learn!”

  • Math + Art = Success!

    Funded Apr 4, 2013

Thank you so very much for the Art supplies! My students were so excited to express, and design their math projects using such diverse art techniques and items. My students couldn't wait to use the beads, watercolors, markers, ribbons, etc. My Transitional kindergarten, and third grade loved painting, making patterns with the beads, designing playdoh sculptures, and creating their own mixed medium art with the Mod Podge. One of my students exclaimed, "I love making art!" When he saw the packages of supplies delivered to our class room. My students looked forward to art projects, and loved the diverse supplies that they could choose from.

My students an I used the art resources to make learning concepts hands-on and personal. For teaching patterns/pattern concepts, my students were able to design beaded jewelry, and wear their own design. We also learned the beauty of Andy Warhol's technique of using something ordinary in Pop culture and making it into art. We had lots of fun using the "Mod Podge," to simulate this form of art. We also used it to express Pablo Picasso's collage techniques.

The art resources donated by the Lily Sarah Grace Fund, made learning more creative, hands-on, personal, and motivating. Teaching math concepts through art increased student motivation and engagement. The students were excited to see how math and art were linked. They also enjoyed learning about famous artists and their interesting ways of expressing color, shape, texture, etc. My class was active, inspired, and buzzing with ways to express their learning in artistic ways!

Thank you for transforming my classroom into a gallery of artistic displays of learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fischer

  • Inspiring Young Minds

    Funded Nov 2, 2012

Thank you so much for providing the "Match and Build" magnetic puzzles, the "Multicultural Play Food" set, and the "Career Costume" set. My students have been impacted daily through puzzle mastery, and re-enacting careers such as firefighter, police officer, and chefs with the multicultural food set. They have loved interacting through play to learn about important jobs, and the importance of our community. The multicultural food set has also helped students have visual aids to go with varying cultural delicacies. It has been fun sorting, identifying beginning sounds, and playing chef with tangible and colorful food items. We have definitely enjoyed "playing with our food!" The month of March we invite locals from the community to share about their careers so the costumes have definitely helped scaffold our lesson and excitement for learning. The puzzles have been wonderful as the magnetic pieces have not been lost and make the puzzles more sustainable for future students. I thank you sincerely for your generosity, and support for our children. We are so very blessed to have a supportive PTA and Chevron community that understand the importance of investing in our children.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fischer

Kindergarten today is much more academic than what you may remember from your own school days. The youngest students in the class are often at a disadvantage as they try to compete with peers who may be a full year older than them. I am excited to be teaching a transitional kindergarten class this year, offering children with fall birthdays a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with kindergarten standards. For many of my students, this is their first experience with formal education. I have 23 students in my class, 20 boys and 3 girls. They are energetic, curious and so ready to learn. This year will lay the foundation to their future success in education. I want them to end the year with a love for school and learning, and ready to be leaders in their kindergarten class next year. My students are very diverse, both socio-economically and culturally. They are smart, sweet, and sometimes sassy. I love teaching this age group!
