Tchoukball Set for Middle School PE!
Funded Oct 2, 2019Thank you so much for you donations towards this Tchoukball set. Students have been so excited to get started. The rebounding nets are so sturdy and well-constructed. The handballs bounce off of them so far, which makes the game extra fun. Since students already have background knowledge about European Handball rules, I was able to implement these nets into our games easily.
Students have enjoyed learning this new game and coming up with strategies for how to succeed. Should they stand close to the net? Should they stand far away? How far is the ball going to rebound off of the net? These are all questions students have been grappling with and working with their teams to figure out.
Thank you again for your donations and thoughtfulness. You have made my students VERY happy.”

Funded Oct 23, 2018Thank you so much for your donations. After a very snowy start to our season, we have assembled our batting cage and are now using our pitching machine! When our players saw the machine set up for the first time, they were so pumped!!
Because of your donations, our practices have become so versatile. First, we can have one team in the cage using the machine to practice hitting and bunting, while we can have another team use the field. Secondly, we use machine to have our players practice hitting off different speeds, locations, and also bunting. This equipment has been a great addition to our baseball/softball program.
Our players are so motivated to improve with the help of the pitching machine. Thank you again for your generous donations. We look to use this equipment for many years and to continue to grow our programs to be the best they can be.”

Funded Oct 1, 2018Thank you so much for bringing this project to life. Students in the 8th grade are already loving this case study (6th graders will be starting this in January). We have begun learning how to volley the pickle ball as well as how to do the forearm stroke.
Students are going to be learning a variety of skills: forearm stroke, backhand stroke, the serve, and volleying. Once students are more proficient in their skill, there will a class tournament where a champion will be crowned!
I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to teach this recreational activity to my students. I hope it sparks a lifelong love of movement and physical activity. Thank you again for contributing to my project, you have helped make a difference!”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Ripple! Thank you again for your donation. My students have already begun to use the Ipad in class for a multitude of purposes. Currently, they are using it to keep score while bowling using a specific app from the App. Store. After learning how to keep score manually, this was a real treat for them. They find it exciting to be able to incorporate technology into their PE class in a purposeful way.
During our soccer unit, which will start shortly, we plan to use the Ipad to record 10 second videos of their performance so that they can analyze their skill technique. This will help students correct their form and look for areas of improvement.
Thank you again for your very generous donation. I will continue to look for ways to thoughtfully and purposefully incorporate Ipad technology into my PE classes in such a way as it enhances my instruction and their experience in class.”

Funded Mar 19, 2018We have started our case study, MELS Bowling Alley! Students are working on their one-step and four-step approach and delivery. We are slowly working towards learning how to keep score and how play with strategy. Students were each assigned a bowling lane in class where they work together in groups of 5 to play. Roles include: bowler, pin setter, ball returner, scorekeeper, and assessor. It has been so great to see my students take on different roles in class while learning this lifetime sport.
When the kids first saw this equipment they were so hyped! They were specifically impressed with the bowling balls. These bowling balls have real finger holes in them, are made of very strong rubber, and accurately replicate what it would feel like to bowl a ball in a real alley. They were so excited to try bowling with the different weighed balls and have had fun choosing which one is the right fit for them.
Over the next several weeks, students will continue to improve their approach and delivery. They are also going to learn how to keep score, which works on some math skills as well. We will also be learning how to hit a spare and the strategy behind that type of play. Lastly, we have a trip planned to a local bowling alley as a culminating event! During this trip, students will be able to showcase their learning in a real world, authentic setting! I am so excited that my students will be able to transfer their learning beyond our gym here at MELS!
So, thank you again for your donations! I have not stopped smiling since this case study has begun. It brings me so much joy to teach bowling to my students and provide them with a unique opportunity in class. Also, thank you for supporting high quality PHYSICAL EDUCATION!”

Funded Sep 17, 2012Thank you so much for your lovely donation. My classroom is so much more accessible for myself and my students. I can roll my cart all around the gym with such ease to make learning easier for my students.
Everyday, I post the learning targets on the board for my students. Because the white board is on wheels, I can bring it to a location where I need my students to be for instruction. Also, I use it to post diagrams and instructions for my students during activity time as well.
Thank you again for your generous donation! It means so much to me and my students!”
