These materials will allow my students to experience science through books and hands-on learning. I will integrate literacy and science standards in order to make their learning more memorable and meaningful to them. Our units of study will be the following: patterns and cycles of space systems; sound and light waves; and animal and plant adaptations. We will be able to conduct experiments using the Science Discovery Chest and Instant STEM Activities kits in order to pique their interest level about the science topic and promote higher-order thinking skills. For example, when learning about sound waves, I will give my students different objects from the science chest to try to see what sounds each item makes. I will prompt them with questions such as, "Why do you think the ruler makes a sound, but the feathers do not?" Then, we will read picture books that explain how sound waves travel, and students will be given the opportunity to discuss the properties of sound with their groups. By donating to this project, you will help my students look forward to coming to school every day. My students are always eager to learn and show creativity. I will plan highly engaging lessons that allow them to explore the topics we discuss in the picture books and make them even more excited about learning.
