  • Actually Seeing a Teacher During Distance Learning!

    Funded Aug 20, 2020

My life has been immeasurably better because of your generosity. Over the course of this school year, I haven't had to worry a single time about the functionality of my laptop, which has become my entire classroom as our city has moved all high school classes to fully virtual. It has made my classes function more smoothly, and allowed me to be a more creative and engaged teacher with kids.

My advisory in particular has enjoyed the new tech. In the spring, my computer routinely crashed during our class (which is more casual and we stick together for all 4 years), and they bemoaned the wait time for my computer to restart and log in to programs again. This year, because of your generosity, we've been able to have a year long competition game, and never have to worry about technical issues interrupting our game, and one of the few outlets they've had during this covid school year.

Thank you again for helping me (and my kiddos too) make the best of a wild school year. It has truly helped me maintain my sanity this year, and have one less thing to stress about.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sasson

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 14 other donors.
  • Exploring Scientific Concepts Through Literacy

    Funded Sep 25, 2012

Thank you so much for your amazing donations. Not only did these books help one group of kids, I've used them now fro 7 years to help grow minds. These books were especially helpful in designing new curriculum around how to react to a pandemic and an alternate reality universe of what the world might look like after we come out of corona.

The kids that initially interacted with these books have now graduated high school, AND college and have each started on their own career paths, in part thanks to your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sasson

  • Science, Math, Art - All aided by a new 3D Printer WOW!

    Funded Mar 11, 2014

We have enjoyed using the 3D printer immensely! After the initial excitement, two of our students took it upon themselves to set up the printer and print a few test buildings to see how it worked. Currently we are planning on using the printer in the coming school year with an emphasis on a physics unit design project, an architecture project, and possibly an art project as well. We could not be more thankful and overjoyed for your donations and continued support in making our school a richer learning environment for students and staff.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sasson

Attending a brand new school in Brooklyn, NY has been an eye opening experience for students and teachers. After working hard to create a community that welcomes many different populations (special education, general education, and autistic students) my students look for the smaller pleasures in life, such as reading. Last year, I began instituting weekly reading time, so my students would become more literate. We read everything from Dr. Seuss, to Roald Dahl short stories, and William Faulkner very short stories. This year we are all looking forward to taking on more substantial works, beginning with these books!
