  • TK Story Crafting With Technology!

    Funded Oct 24, 2016

My students utilize technology to improve their phonemic awareness, letter recognition, vocabulary development, and technology skills. Utilization of technology is key in providing a well balanced, rigorous curriculum. By having access to technology, my students are able to excel on an individual basis. They enjoy the interactive programs, and are actively engaged while learning.

Technology is expensive. with Donor's Choose donations, my classroom access to technology is further enhanced each and every year. I am extremely grateful for the generous donations, and access to technology that Donor's Choose provides.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mirkovich-Smith

  • Building LIteracy in TK one IPAD at a Time!

    Funded Oct 9, 2015

Thank you so much for the generous donation of an IPad. My students have been utilizing this technology on a daily basis. They have been using it for games, learning apps, and even taking pictures of each other. The photos used on this project were all shot by students using an iPad. My class works daily with this technology logging their progress online to provide feedback for me, their teacher. We, as a class, are truly appreciative of your commitment to education and generosity. My students have made tremendous progress towards becoming independent readers. Thank you for making an investment in our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mirkovich-Smith

The generosity extended to my classroom is deeply appreciated, Our music program is thriving thanks to your contributions. These donated items will help improve and broaden the educational experience of many, many students. We are thrilled as a classroom to be a part of his experience. We are thrilled to now have access to new technologies that will allow us to collaborate with schools across the country. We are currently working on a project which involved a live stream for collaboration. Your donations have allowed our classroom to have this opportunity. Publishing and producing the music is challenging but exciting to all involved. We are excited about the many prospects that await us in our classroom's musical future. Your generosity is greatly appreciated,”

  • Help 5th Grade Rock!

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

Thank you so very much for your generous donation. My class literally jumped up and down when I announced that we had been funded. Our class is so excited to utilize our technology that will help further our access to music. We love playing music and learning new songs to play. Our classroom band is getting better each and every day. Having our own Mac Book Pro, I Pod and

I Pad makes hearing new songs, learning new tabs, and recording our performances so great. We have shared our videos through social media and everyone loves them. The parents are shocked at how amazing this whole program is. It is an amazing gift that your company's generosity has shared with the students in fifth grade, and we thank you again for your support of the arts!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mirkovich-Smith

  • Keeping the Arts Alive!

    Funded Oct 29, 2013

Room 6 is ecstatic! We danced the "two step" yesterday for the first time with our new Bose CD system, and the students were all shocked that even outside, we could all hear the music. Transitioning from one song or CD to the next was so easy that we were able to spend more time dancing, instead of waiting. The clarity and tone is amazing and it makes dancing all the more enjoyable. We all are so grateful for your generous donation. Our weekly dance time is enhanced by the beautiful gift you provided our class. We definitely look forward to many more opportunities to listen to music, and learn new dances. Thanks for adding that little bounce in our step!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mirkovich-Smith

Our students come from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnicity backgrounds. While predominantly Hispanic, our school is a melting pot of cultures, much like most of California. Our school is unique in that it is an open enrollment school that accepts any and all students residing within the city limits of Los Angeles. We are not a magnet school nor are we entitled to Title I funding. What this means in a nutshell, is that our school receives the least amount of funding per student that a public school in California is entitled to. This had created quite an unfair advantage for our learners. While other schools are amply supplied (even in these financially challenging times), our school struggles to afford basic supplies such as paper and pencils. Our students are eager learners that deserve the same opportunities that other schools are afforded.
