  • Dreamers' Art Exhibit

    Funded Nov 28, 2015

This project was a fundraiser for our school's International Dreamers Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was founded several years ago to give our undocumented students financial assistance when pursuing a college degree. A club was later formed called the Dreamers Club. It consists of a group of students who are interested in helping their classmates achieve their goals.

I noticed the club was trying to raise money with bake sales and such. I suggested we have an art show and sell their paintings and drawings. I had a lot of artwork that had been left behind by students who had graduated. To add to those works, members of the Dreamers Club made paintings that we thought people would like. A nearby gallery owner let us use her space free of charge. Our grant from Donors Choose allowed us to buy frames and make a nice presentation. We also sold some unframed works.

The exhibit was a tremendous success. We sold all of the framed works and almost all of the unframed pieces. Work was sold in the gallery and on line. We made over $800 in one evening. The whole experience was exciting and fulfilling for our kids: making the art, seeing how great it look framed, curating and overseeing the exhibit, and seeing how much people valued their work. Your generous donation to our project made it all possible.”

    With gratitude,

  • The Classroom Gallery Scene

    Funded Mar 17, 2010

Thank you so much for making all of this possible. We had our gallery opening in June and it was a popular event at our school. My students were proud to have their work displayed and to have their friends and teachers come and see it at a celebration that included live music and dancing.

This will become an art room tradition, an exhibition at the end of each semester. It has been very exciting for me to see how much people care about the arts and our kids and to host The Classroom Gallery Scene. Once again, my students and I are grateful for your generosity and your belief in the importance of art.”

  • An International Exhibition in Brooklyn

    Funded May 29, 2008

Thank you so much for choosing to fund our project.

Your donation will help get next year off to an exciting start. My students were so prolific this year that we have already amassed a great body of beautiful artwork that is worthy of being exhibited. We are still a new school and an event like this could be the beginning of a time-honored tradition. Once again, thank you and I look forward to corresponding with you next fall.

    Sincerely,

    Cynthia ”

I would like to create more of a gallery atmosphere in my high school art class. Inspiring my students to create beautiful, prize-winning art is easy, however displaying it can be a challenge because our classroom has no bulletin boards. Our school is one of the public school system's international schools. All of our children are recent immigrants. Over 95% of them qualify for the free lunch program. Many of them are discovering for the first time that they are capable of making art that they can be proud of. They enjoy seeing their work displayed in the classroom and bring their friends to see it.
