Understanding Rights and Responsibilities of Americans
Funded Dec 3, 2013My students and I are so grateful for your generosity and support. Positive relationships between members of the community and parents, students, and teachers are so important today. The materials and books will be a huge asset to our classroom. Motivating students to read is a difficult task at times, and I believe the books I have chosen will spark interest in my young readers, including struggling readers who will benefit from the audio materials.
The Time Magazine subscription will provide students with current information and will provide them with strategies for comprehension of non-fiction reading, as well as for a useful research tool.
Once again, many thanks for your kindness and generosity.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Judd
Fun Books for Accelerated Reading
Funded Oct 30, 2012I and my students appreciate your generosity and thoughtful gift. Most of my students are struggling or reluctant readers. With technology advances, and interests in sports and after school activities, reading is not on the top of their to do lists when they get home. With homework tasks in other core classes taking them twice as long because of reading deficits, AR reading is a task they often ignore. Therefore, choosing books that interest them is a difficult task.
Before receiving the "Middle School-The Worst Years of My Life" books, some of my students had not read a book all year. Once hooked on the book, students asked to read every day. The overall average score on the AR test accompanying the book was 80%. They enjoyed reading and want me to work on another grant to purchase the other books in the series. I have found that once a student gets hooked on a series, he/she becomes a lifelong reader, always looking for the next great series.
I look forward to the possibility of working with you in the future. Thank you.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Judd
