My high school students are enrolled in an upper division English class and they live in a rural northern California community with a strong agricultural base. Our high school is a small school whose student population is predominantly Hispanic. Our students are accepting of their classmates diversity, but have little exposure to the diversity of cultures outside their own community. For some there is little opportunity to learn about other cultures unless it is through public media outlets or the exposure they receive in their high school classes.
