Sing a Song!
Funded Jan 18, 2025Thank you so much for donating to the music room. My students love experiencing songs using picture books and your donation just gave them many, many more songs to hear and learn.
We appreciate the funding of this project so very much.
Thank you with much gratitude from my young musicians.”

Going on an Adventure!
Funded Dec 1, 2023Thank you so much for your donations to the music room! Students have an an exceptional time reading all the books given to the music room by way of this project. It has given the opportunity for all my students to discuss travel, reading a map, and creating their own music after reading these texts.
One project I hope to create with my students is around map making. I hope for them to create their own maps and have conversations with each other as to what items should be on their map. The directions they choose will determine the directions or pathways they will move as they create their own choreography for a dance.
Thank you so much!!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Prouty
What's in a Name?
Funded Mar 30, 2023Students have an an exceptional time reading all the books given to the music room by way of this project. It has given the opportunity for all my students to discuss their names and how they got their names.
We took this idea of names a step further. My colleague composed a song about names, which all third grade students have learned. The song has also been arranged to be played on barred instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, metallophones and ukuleles). The students created a B section of the song using their names, but only using the letters of their names that appear in the music alphabet (ABCDEFG).
This project would have never happened without your contributions!”

Funded Oct 11, 2022These books around the theme of books have been so wonderful in starting discussions with my students around food. The demographics of my school represent over thirty different countries and it has been wonderful to open up the discussion about what kind of food my students eat.
Our students experience books with google slides that were created based on taking photos of the books your helped to provide. This way, we can really see all the detail of the imagery. Also, I can isolate certain aspects of the books to create a foreshadowing effect.
My students have created wonderful chants and ostinatos around the food they eat and the utensils they used to eat their food.”

Ms. Prouty
Pop Music Picture Books
Funded Mar 2, 2022Thank you so much for your donations to my classroom. My students have been loving the new books that I have been able to share with them because of you!
These music based picture books have been used as a way to open music class. I have scanned the books into a google slide, so that I can project the book larger for my students.
Each book's text are the lyrics of a pop song. As the pages are projected, the song is played for my students to track along with the lyrics and see the accompanying pictures.
This has been a great way to expose my students to so many different genres of music; from country, to rock, and so much more!”

Funded Oct 21, 2021Thanks to all who donated to help me achieve my dream of adding more books with diversity to my classroom. The demographics of my school includes no less than representation from 30 countries! These books allow my student the opportunity to experience different cultures. Representation matters.
Reading in a music room is a whole new way to experience the joy of reading! There are phrases that are taken from the book and rhythms are added as jumping off points to creating music! Students are inspired to add in body percussion, instruments, silly voices and more.
It is with sincere gratitude that I was able to add more books that look like the students I teach.”

Funded May 5, 2021I have yet to really dig into this project with my students. These books arrived at the end of the school year and due to COVID, we are working on skills we didn't get a chance to explore such as singing.
So far, I have explored all the donated books. I have created digital copies of the books so that students will be able to see the beauty of the images on a large scale.
With 2 books, I have created lessons and presented these ideas to other music teachers.
Using Flora and the Flamingo series, dancers can explore different ways to move their bodies, while hearing a piece of music.
Using Imagine!, I have created an original piece of music inspired by the images. This piece I written for xylophone and glockenspiel. Each part of the song makes references to the art shown in the book so that students can more easily learn their part without traditional music notation.”
