My students are amazingly talented, bright, opinionated, and insightful high schoolers who just happen to have social/emotional/behavioral needs and/or learning disabilities. They often share stories of failed attempts at school, and by the time they have reached high school have countless negative academic experiences. It is my job to provide positive, memorable, and relevant and worthwhile academic experiences to these wonderful people so that they can know just how smart they each are as they enter adulthood. I teach in the most diverse high school in the state, so these students often come to the classroom with backgrounds and experiences that enrich our classroom community. My students are high school age, and many have jobs to support his/her family, are athletes, volunteers, members of school clubs, have desires to be successful, and have the challenge of being in a literate world when many times, they are not. I wish you could meet each and every one of them!
