Taking Learning Outdoors (Urban Area)
Funded Dec 6, 2010Thank you so much for supporting our classroom. The kids just love to go outside and learn about science. They are so surprised that science is all around them. The sketch journals that you have provided for my kids will be invaluable. They all love to draw. We will be drawing leaves and insects that we find outside and then using identification guides to help us figure out what they are. The students are so excited to receive the new materials.
Thank you again for your donations. They are greatly appreciated.”

Life Science in the City
Funded Nov 30, 2010Your donations are so much appreciated. Everytime we have a project funded the kids get so excited to see the new equipment!! All of this new life science materials will greatly enhance our life science unit. I am especially excited about the tree identification guides. My older students will be in groups outside. They will use these books to identify the trees in the school yard. They will then bring in leaves from the trees around their houses to identify those as well.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness. ”

This classroom project was brought to life by Disney's Planet Challenge and 15 other donors.Inner City Science Fair
Funded Sep 13, 2010I am so excited about finally being able to have science fair boards for all of my students. In the past we have had to share boards and complete projects together. This always caused some sort of conflict. But, this year the students will have a choice to work by themselves or with a partner.
About half of my students have never completed a science fair project before! After listening to the other students enthusiasm about their experiences with science fair they are all looking forward to participating.
Again, thank you for thinking of me and my students. Your generous donation is filling a great void in our school. Your are truly appreciated.”

Funded Jan 17, 2010Thank you so much for donating to our project. With these new supplies we will be able to investigate light on a different level. We have using supplies that were getting very old and not working very well. Now we know our flash lights will work every time we turn them on.
With the laser kit we will be able to explore light in a whole new way.
Your donations have helped to encourage a love of learning through exploration. We greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness. Thank you again.”

Funded Dec 24, 2009Your generosity has a tremendous impact on my classroom. My students are excited about writing proposals and thank you notes. They love to receive the items and use them.
You didn't have to donate to this project. We are very grateful that you did. My students will now be able to take playground equipment outside to play with. We have a playground that was recently installed, but the school lacks the equipment that the students need to properly build gross motor skills and social skills through team games.
Thank you for thinking of us.”

Inner-City Ecosystems
Funded Oct 30, 2009Thank you for donating to our project. I have my students get involved with writing the projects that are posted. This gets them excited about what we are going to be doing in the classroom. They are especially excited when the materials arrive in the classroom.
This project has been especially exciting for the students. They have seen ponds, but not on a daily basis. We have been busy reading and doing research to see what types of organisms we can place in our pond. We will have gold fish and some plants to start with.
Thank you again for thinking of us.”

Science in the City
Funded Oct 30, 2009I wanted to say thank you for thinking of my students. They are in need of so much. When they come to school they often have other things on their minds besides school. If I can get them activity engaged in learning it will take their minds off of other things while they are in school.
You generous donations have helped me to stock my classroom with the necessary things a science room needs. The items that were purchased will be put to good use this school and for many more to come.
Thank you again.”

Vocabulary Boosters
Funded Sep 29, 2009My students were so excited when I told them that this project had been funded. They enjoy learning so much. Having fun materials to work with only encourages them to do their best.
They are excited to use the small journals to help build up their science vocabulary. We will be using the different colored paper to make informational organizers. Our first one is on animal classification. We will make a folded book, write information about each animal group, and glue pictures of animals that fit into that group.
The students enjoy drawing the vocabulary words with the chalk onto black paper. I then hang them in different locations around the room. The organizational items that you have provided will allow me and the students to keep everything in an orderly fashion.
This was a big project and your big hearts help to make it come to life. My students are eager to keep the project alive all school year.
Thank you so much!! ”

Inner-City Science
Funded Oct 15, 2009Thank you for your generosity. My students need every advantage to get ahead in their learning. Your donations are providing great hands on opportunities.
We were in great need of new beakers. We had a few older beakers, but they were stained and gooey. Now we can see everything that we are supposed to see while we use our new beakers.
We will be using the new diffraction glasses to view the different patterns of light that gas tubes give off. I send electricity through gas tubes and they give off their own colored bar code that can only be seen through special diffraction paper.
When we get to our water quality unit we now have safety glasses (instead of goggles that made us look raccoons afterward), new beakers, droppers, and pH paper to test the water.
Thank you again for thinking of us.”

Journals for Scientists
Funded May 21, 2009Thank you so much for thinking of my students. They are so excited to have journals to use just as scientists would. Your gracious donations have enabled my students to have the supplies that they need to be successful in science class.
My students need any advantage that they can get in order to get ahead in school. Your generosity will be used throughout this school year. The journals arrived on the second day of school and we have been using them everyday since. They are excited about coming into the classroom to see what they will be doing that day.
Thank you again for thinking of us!!”

Mrs. Keenmon
