  • Back to Basics-Let's Write!

    Funded Oct 14, 2019

My students are really engaged in the writing lessons and word work that we have been working on. They love using the colorful markers with the small whiteboards when practicing writing their sight words. The students enjoy using the notebooks that have a space where they can draw and illustrate a picture that goes along with their writing. When students using a checklist for writing they are really excited and have developed a love of writing because of the tools that we have received from you. This makes teaching writing such a joy.

Thank you so much for your support.”

  • The Colors of Learning

    Funded Oct 6, 2018

Our classroom has benefited greatly from having a color printer right in the classroom because my students are visual learners and benefit greatly by being able to see pictures and objects in beautiful colors. Right now they are working on letter identification and sounds by picking vocabulary pictures of objects and pictures with logos using environmental print. The students are really engaged and love to have the ability to choose the pictures they like, of course in COLOR!!

Thank you so much for your support to our project.”

  • Increasing Oral Language Through Digital Storytelling and Literature

    Funded Aug 21, 2017

Recently our class has been learning about "Community" in our first unit. We have learned about who lives, works, and plays in our community. At the end of the unit the students collaborated on writing a play together. They learned about scripts, selected the community worker they wanted to be using puppets, and then wrote the play. After several rehearsals we began to record the play. Students took turns recording the play using the tablets, and we then viewed it together. We noticed where we needed to improve, revised our parts, and kept practicing. We will perform for K0 students soon. The students were so excited to use the tablets to record the play, and they look forward to creating other projects that integrate writing and dramatic play. I'm so thankful for your donation that provided me with another tool to get my kids excited about writing and speaking.”

  • Artful Thinking-Inspired by Books

    Funded May 9, 2017

We recently began a unit on "Communities" My students began by discussing places they know in their communities. We made a web organizer, and discussed the students' favorite places. The students painted their favorite place, and wrote a sentence identifying the place, and explaining why it's their favorite place. They were very excited when I showed them the art material. Of course they were anxious to begin using it right away! Our next steps will be to identify the types of jobs people have in different communities, and then research what that job is all about. The students will then create a poster using the art material. I look forward to utilizing these materials consistently because my students were really engaged and were motivated to write while doing their project.”

  • From Silence To The Unstoppable Achiever

    Funded Mar 27, 2015

My students were very excited when I opened the boxes and showed them our new material. They wanted to know who the donors were and where they lived. Of course I explained to them that I didn't know all of that information, but I assured them that our donors really wanted to donate and help us with our project.

The students have used the listening center during their center time. I cannot express how much they really enjoy listening to books. They want to go back again and again. Some of them even want to read the very same books on their own. They are still learning how to properly use the sentence tiles to build and then write their sentences that make sense. But I anticipate that once they get the gist of it, they will continue to build their fluency in writing sentences using the parts of speech pieces.

The project has greatly built enthusiasm for learning centers, because the students now have more choices to choose from. The listening center has already increased their love for listening to favorite books as they have access to hear fluent reading in a fun way. We really appreciate all of our donations.”

  • Writing to Fill a Need-Need a Little to Fill It

    Funded Dec 29, 2011

I take this time to graciously thank all of you for contributing to my classroom project. My students have developed such a love for writing over these past few months. Economic challenges have affected school districts across the country, and believe me your donations are greatly appreciated. The children have written Expository Nonfiction-How To Books", and they never wanted to stop writing. The material has enhanced their abilities because they had everything they need”

  • Sharpened Pencils Help Create Sharpened Minds

    Funded Dec 21, 2010

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your kindness. Your donations to my classroom project has helped my students to have a successful writing experience with more than enough material. Through your generous support they were taught useful skills such as responsibility, and classroom management. They had to learn how to use the three hole punch, and they also used the clips more to keeps their stories, and poems organized. They really looked forward to writing as a result of your donations to our class. They felt excited when it was time for writing because they had these neon folders, and it helped them feel special as writers to have these materials.”

  • Reading at the Right Pace

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness. I really do mean that. My students were so excited when they saw me opening up the boxes. They just could not wait for me to finish sorting the books, and putting them into the right bins. The excitement in the room that morning was so contagious. I was so happy that I remembered to grab my camera! I'm happy to say that they continue to take great care of the books, and are working really hard to put them back in the right places. I finally have gotten my small groups flowing, and having a beautiful collection of leveled books in the classroom library has helped to quiet the noise level down because the children have found books that are not only interesting, but at their reading level. This has helped them to sit down and read, read, and read some more!

    Again, thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Arthurton

  • "Boys Inspired to Write-Girls Inspired to Continue"

    Funded Feb 20, 2009

    Dear Donors,

I would like to express my deepest gratitude, and appreciation for your donation to our classroom. Writing is one of my favorite subjects, and I wanted to instill that love to my students. But it was like hitting a brick wall to get them to write, especially my boys. They hated it! But when we received the material from you, they became excited and ready to write. We started with poetry. They loved designing their folders, and drawing pictures to go with their writing. Ooh my goodness, when they were allowed to staple their own booklets, I thought I was in another classroom, because they were ready and willing to write and be authors.

When it was time to do writing they were ready. I no longer heard the awes, and no. They really looked forward to it. The boys looked forward to working together on stories, and helping each other do drawings that went along with their stories. When it was time to stop, that was when I got all the oohs, and many sad faces. It turned out to be a great writing experience for all of us. The material lasted for several writing projects. We really thank you for your kindness, and generosity.”

  • Fit For Fun and a Lifetime of Learning

    Funded Oct 1, 2008

The school year has begun, and already I'm exhausted. When I came home and read the email that my project had been funded, I was instantly invigorated and excited. I thank you so much, because given the hectic world we live in, it's a pleasure to know that there are still people who care. I cannot wait to share this great news with our students and staff. Again, thank you!

My students are not only learning academic content, but they are also learning English as a second language. They have an additional challenge in becoming proficient in both areas. They are very highly motivated and enjoy learning. With additional supports they can be as successful as all children.
