My students are energetic, adorable and learning English as their second language. The majority of my students come from large households and they don't hear or read English at home. They have many challenges that most seven year old children don't encounter. With learning a new language, they are learning new sounds, letters and language rules that are very different than what they know. They love to learn and they are like little sponges. They absorb so much, but learning to write when you can't read is very discouraging. I want them to become risk takers. By creating a stamp writing center, they can stamp out a story and learn to write and read the words they write. By creating a fun center, they forget they are learning and begin taking risks and will soon be writing sentences and then a complete story.
