Collaboration is KEY
Funded Dec 9, 2021Thank you so much for your generous donations. The students love playing outside each day. Playground is one of their favorite parts of the day. However, they needed playground equipment for some of their rotations. They were so excited to get their basketballs and four square easy grip balls. They have been using them every day during the playground time.
During math time the students do rotations to practice their math skills. Students are able to pop to roll the device. Then they work their way around the board answering questions on rounding, telling time, solving perimeter and more. This hands on Pop to Win Math game has been one of the students' favorites.
Thank you again for your generosity. The students were so excited when they received their new items for their classroom.”

Funded Feb 28, 2019Thank you for helping get more books for our library. This is my seond year in the library and I have worked hard to bring books in the library that get the kids excited about reading. Most of our students are really into graphic novels. Even younger ones like to look at the pictures in the book.
After I told the students that our grant had been funded they were so excited and kept asking if our new books had come. The day they came in the library word quickly got out that we had boxes of brand new graphic novels from their favorite series. As soon as I got them in the library I couldn't keep them on the shelves.
The most exciting thing that happened with this project ist that the author of Dork Diaries, Raina Telgemeier funded the last part of our project and wrote a note to the students. This had made our new books even more special.
Thank for all you do. You have made many kids very happy this school year. They have been so excited to come to the library and check out our new books.”

Funded Nov 27, 2018Thank you so much for helping fund our project. We were so excited to find out that we were getting our Qball (microphone ball). The microphone ball has made such a difference in the media center. The students love getting to use it when they stand and talk. They actually get excited about talking in front of their students. We have learned to be patient and wait our turn when using it. When the students have a question or know an answer they raise their hand and I throw it to them. They say their answer into the ball and throw it back to me. Not only has the made a difference in students wanting to answer questions it has also helped with being able to understand them. This has been great practice for standing delivering while speaking slowly and clearly when talking. Now that we have one in the media center we have classroom teachers who want them. We also want to get one to use in the multiple purpose room when have programs. This has been one of my favorite grants funded. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

Can't Wait to Read!!
Funded Apr 24, 2018Thank you so much for helping us fund our proposal. The students get so excited when new books come in the library. As a new librarian I am constantly trying to find ways to get more books for the students to read.
Some of their favorite books to read are their chapter books. One of their favorite books is Among the Hidden. This was the first book in a seven book series. As soon as the students finished one of the books they were ready to read the next book, Among the Imposter's. However, we didn't have any copies of this book in our library. Thanks to you were able to purchase multiple copies of this book for them to read. Another book that all of the students wanted to read was Wonder. Many of the kids had seen the movie and wanted to read this book. With this proposal we were also able to get multiple copies of this book also.
Each time a box comes in the library my students can't want to see what books are inside. It is like Christmas come early. Thank you for helping buy books that help foster a love for reading for my students. These are two of our most popular books in the library.”

Diving Into a Good Book!
Funded May 13, 2018Thank you so much for helping bring new books into our library. I have worked hard to find new books for our library that the students love to read. Some of their favoritegraphic novel series are Amazing World of Gumball, Lunch Lady and Super Rabbit. They also love reading non-fiction books. One of the series that we love to read are the What if You Had series. They have amazing pictures and real photographs. Each book has many different animals and focuses on an animal feature such as animal eyes. It looks at the different animals and explains what it would be like to be animal with those kinds of eyes.
As a new librarian I have found the best way to purchase books the students like is to have a running list where they can add books they would like to have in the library. Then we create a Donors Choose to help purchase those books. The students are so excited each time a new box come in the library. We are so very grateful for your help.”

Let's Get to the Point
Funded Apr 10, 2018Thank you so much for our pencil sharpeners, crayons and colored pencils. I go through a lot of pencils and colored pencils teaching all of the students. This means we are constantly sharpening our pencils. We were literally having to use handheld pencil sharpeners to sharpen our pencils. We had stopped using colored pencils since it was too much trouble to sharpen them. The students were so excited to get the two pencil sharpeners in the library. They love using the sharpeners. I have many volunteers to help sharpen the pencils each day.
We often read books and then do art projects to go with the book. We use our crayons and colored pencils on a regular basis. It has been so nice to have the materials we need to complete our projects. Thanks again for your generosity.”

Getting Excited About Reading
Funded Feb 7, 2018Thank you so much for our new chapter books and graphic novels. After being in the classroom for nineteen years I switched to the role of media specialist. As a classroom teacher I had a pretty intensive classroom library. This was a great resource for my classroom as well as the other classrooms in my grade level.
Being the media specialist comes its own set of challenges. I now have kids from first grade to fifth grade. I am constantly trying find books on different reading levels. I have also tried to find engaging books that get the students excited about reading. My students are obsessed with the book Wonder. I can't keep copies in the library. They also love reading graphic novels. Students leave me notes of what books they would like to see in the library and then I try to find a way to get these books.
They were so excited when they found out these books were coming to the library. The books have not stayed on the shelf since we got them. Thank you so much for helping me grow excitement for reading in the library.”

Funded Dec 7, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donations. As a new media specialist I have worked really hard to bring books into the library that get the kids excited about reading. We keep an ongoing list on my desk where students can write down books they want me to purchase. I follow several Facebook library groups and get suggestions from the people in the group.
My kids are passionate about coming to the library and checking out books. I have found that the books that are most sought out are the graphic novels. There are so many good graphic novel series that are out there. The students rush into the library and go to our Readbox (Redbox) display to see if the latest book has come back in. I have sticky notes all across my desk with books I am holding for kids.
Every time the next box comes into the media center the kids gather around as I open it to see what books are inside. It is like Christmas every time a new box comes in. This year we are building a love of reading. Kids are exciting about coming to the media center and it is one of the busiest places in our school. It is because of donors such as yourselves that I am able to buy new books for our media center. I am so very grateful for all of your donations.”

Keeping Our Kids Healthy and Happy
Funded Oct 3, 2017Thank you for the healthy snacks for our students. We are a ninety-six percent Title One school. Thanks to a grant all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. We have a group of students who are part of the backpack program and take home backpacks of food for the weekend.
Many of our students are hungry through out the day. When you are hungry it is very hard to learn so we try to provide a midday snack for our students. They were so excited to see the snacks come in. The snacks have helped our students stay more focused and ready to learn. It is one of their favorite times of the day.”

Funded Oct 19, 2017Thank you so much for helping fund our project. Since starting as the new media specialist this year at my school I have worked hard to get lots of new books for our media center. My students keep a list of books they would like to see in our media center. I have bought books for the media center but II try to find as many other ways as I can to fund our new books. Donors Choose has been a great way to get books for the media center.
There is nothing more exciting than being in the media center when a new box of books comes into the media center. The kids crowd around to see what new books we have gotten. They can't hardly wait until we get the books entered into the catalog and bar coded so they can check them out. I usually end up with a large stack of books on hold.
We really appreciate you helping us get some of their favorite books for the library.”

Mrs. Patterson
