  • Listening Center Needed Post Sandy

    Funded Feb 4, 2013

This is a small token of our gratitude for your generous donations to our classroom. The listening center donated to our classroom has been put to good use. The students love their new center. They love listening to fairy tales over and over. They think they are "cool" with their new headphones. What I think is "cool", is that they can now use a new modality to to learn how to read. My students are learning to independently use the center and select books they would love to listen to during their independent learning time. My new past time is acquiring more books on CD to broaden the selection my students have access to. I can't wait until my kindergarten students realize they are learning to read by listening to their favorite books. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Goldberg

  • Comfy Reading Spots with Books to Match Post Sandy

    Funded Jan 20, 2013

This is a small token of my gratitude for your generous donations. My students are so excited about their new colorful space to read and listen to mini-lessons. They love the new leveled readers and fluency readers. They want to read them all at once. They have so many writing instruments at their disposal and are excited to write responses about their new books.

Little things like new crayons, markers and books mean the world to my students. They appreciate everything and are in awe that people like you actually care enough to give them the tools they need to expand their horizons. These donations will help lead the way to improving their reading and writing. Once again, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Goldberg

  • Special Needs Students Need Post Sandy Technology

    Funded Jan 9, 2013

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The addition of an iPad in our classroom will enable all my students to learn using their preferential style of learning. It's exciting to see their smiles and hear them say "Wow" and "Ooh" when they learn something new.

The apps I downloaded are enabling students to type their stories, learn letter sounds and practice rhyming. They are counting money, multiplying and practicing cardinality. They are listening to stories and watching short non-fiction movies. Its amazing how an iPad can open the world to special needs students. I can only imagine where I'll be able to take my students now.

Your gift of an iPad will give my students a great beginning to their educational career.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Goldberg

I teach 12 wonderful and motivated special needs students in a Title 1 school located on the Lower East Side. I teach students in grades K, 1, and 2. They try hard to meet their personal goals as well as strive to meet the Common Core Learning Standards. Now that the third graders are faced with a standardized test next Spring, we will need more books and tools to meet their needs, With the proper tools not always available due to budget cuts, they will be able to meet and exceed their personal goals and grow into great readers, writers and mathematicians. Positive reinforcement helps my students flourish and want to continue to learn. All the skills they learn while in Early Childhood grades will support their growth as learners as they progress in school and through higher education.
