  • And The Nomination Goes To...

    Funded Nov 27, 2012

Thank you so much for the microphones, the Karaoke System and the microphone stand. With the supplies you have given our class, I have watched my students blossom into amazing writers; writing stories, songs, plays and other presentations. Recently, they even created their own Power Point presentations to share with parents and other classes.

By giving the students the tools to share their creations, you have helped each student develop a love for learning. Students are able to demonstrate their knowledge of content material in theme based projects. Sharing has become the norm in my class. Students love to step up the microphone and be the star that they were born to be. This has helped to boost their confidence!

Thank you so much for helping to make this a magical year! The tools you have given our class will touch many lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rainer

  • Economics: It's Here, There, And Everywhere!

    Funded Nov 27, 2012

Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom. The biographies were a wonderful addition to our unit on heroes. Through the stories the students were able to identify the economic concepts and the decision making skills that helped these every day individuals rise to hero status.

The students used the non-fiction books to learn new vocabulary and to learn facts about the contributions made by important people in history. After reading the books, the students created essays as to why the person was famous and the person's relevancy in today's society. Having the books on cd made it possible for struggling readers to have the opportunity to listen to the story to gain comprehension, as well as, listen to a fluent reader read the story. We are very thankful for the books. They will be used by many students and treasured for years to come.

Thank you for your contribution to our classroom and for being our heroes.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rainer

This year I have 25 fabulous first grade students. My elementary school is located in a fast-growing residential part of Arkansas. We serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Our student population of 520 has become more diverse in recent years, with approximately 48% Caucasian, 29% African American, 1% Hispanic, 20% Asian, and 2% other ethnic students in our school this year. We are the only school in our district that works to implement a school wide economics theme. As I said, I have 25 first graders who love to learn and can't wait to get started printing their projects.
