This year I will have 90 students, two classes which I am looping with (this will be my third year with the 8th grade class, second year with the 7th grade class, and I will have a new 6th grade class). My students work hard, consistently pushing themselves above and beyond the required elements of a writing assignment or social studies project. They work collaboratively and technology is always an essential element of daily classwork and homework, but challenges arise often due to limited resources. While my students work to their best efforts in school, due to typical NY school funding challenges, printing in our school is limited. While black-and-white printing is usually an option in our classrooms, a black and white plain-papered certificate is equivalent to just another photocopied assignment that everyone gets; it is not as special and it does not make our students feel like their achievements and hard work are as special. My students need a printer.
