  • Support My Super Scientists

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

Thanks a million for your generosity. Your donation has provided new opportunities for my students to explore robotics and coding. Our robot, Dash, has become the classroom mascot. He even received Valentine's Day cards! Having a microscope readily available in the classroom has also been a great addition for my little scientists, and thanks to you, we'll be making magnetic slime next week. Science in fourth grade is fun!

It is through the help of wonderful people like you that science becomes a reason to come to school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sturla-Castaneira

This classroom project was brought to life by Atlantic Coast Conference and 2 other donors.
  • LEGO Smart

    Funded Oct 13, 2015

My students were thrilled to receive the supplies for the project you funded, LEGO Smart. They were in complete awe to realize they would be able "play" with LEGO blocks. These tools have helped enhance many aspects of our STEM curriculum and problem-solving strategies. We have used them for science and math in many occasions. The children even come up with ideas to integrate LEGO pieces into lessons for patterns, fractions, and even in analytical writing assignments. Thank you for making a difference in our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sturla-Castaneira

  • Fashionable Facts

    Funded Oct 15, 2013

My students were thrilled to receive the supplies for the project you funded, Fashionable Facts. They were in complete awe to realize they would be able to design a shirt to share the knowledge acquired in fourth grade. This project might seem like a simple art activity, but my kids had to look through their notes, journals and textbooks to decide what was an important, meaningful fact for them. We made them study and they didn't even know it!

Since I teach the core subjects (reading, math, science and social studies) the students rarely have the chance to draw for whole period, a couple of times a month! Sometimes we forget these children are fourth graders and that there are ways other than tests to assess their knowledge.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sturla-Castaneira

This classroom project was brought to life by South Florida Kia Retailers and one other donor.
I'm very fortunate to have a classroom full of enthusiastic, curious fourth graders. Most of them were my students in third grade, so we have developed a very close, loving relationship. At least 90 percent of students in our school receive free or reduced lunch, but that does not stop us from being an "A" according to Florida's grading system.
