My 20 students are from varied backgrounds. Ten of them are English language learners, Chinese being their primary language. Thirteen qualify for free and reduced lunch. They all work very hard and value learning. My classroom is a microcosm of the school. Many teachers are involved in the Reading and Writing Workshop model which is so in sync with the Common Core Curriculum. Our school community values the arts and we are fortunate to have visual and performing art consultants. Some of us work with the San Francisco Opera and will write, produce, and perform our own productions.
