I work within a Title I school in California. 78% of the students in our school qualify for free or reduced lunches and many also face the challenge of being English language learners. Many of my students never had the opportunity to attend preschool to build early foundations as their parents could not afford to send them. Because of this fact they have not had the opportunity to experience dramatic play to develop language and social skills. Our school district is implementing a new program this upcoming fall, Transitional Kindergarten. This new program addresses the lack of preschool experience and prepares students for Kindergarten.
