The majority of students in my school are African American and live in a high poverty area. For my students who struggle with reading, listening to their favorite stories encourages them to learn words they didn't know, read along, build stamina and build on their own fluency skills. For a variety of reasons, many of the students in my class do not have access to books at home or not read to at home.
